Wayne State to Host Sports Medicine Conference Oct. 8-9
WAYNE, Neb. (Oct. 5, 2009) -- Wayne State College will be hosting the 34th annual fall meeting of the Northland Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine on October 8-9 in Ramsey Theater.
The conference, titled “Scientific Aspects of Amputee Locomotion,” will feature Dr. Rodger Kram, professor Department of Integrative Biology University of Colorado; Dr. Kenton Kaufman, Orthopedic Surgery and professor of Biomedical Engineering, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn.; and Jerry Brandstetter, from Wayne, Neb.
Dr. Kram and Dr. Kaufman will present research findings related to the latest scientific advances in prosthetics and the beneficial effects they have had on enhancing amputee locomotion and Brandstetter will talk about how prosthetics have affected his quality of life.
The meeting will also feature the Northland Chapter regional student Quiz Bowl, which is open to the public with no admission fee and will run from 4 to 5 p.m. Oct. 8 in Ramsey Theatre. Students from the Wayne State Department of Health, Human Performance and Sport are the defending regional and national Quiz Bowl champions.
