Wayne State Students Awarded at Annual NACSM Spring Tutorial Meeting

Kris Hinnerichs, Dr. Barbara Engebretsen, Dr. Tammy Evetovich, Dr. Donovan Conley and several students from the Department of Health, Human Performance, and Sport recently attended the 23nd annual Spring tutorial meeting of the Northland Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine (NACSM) at Saint Cloud State University on March 27.

The meeting titled "Professionalism and Opportunities in Exercise Science" provided a forum for students and professionals to interact with regional and national scholars in Sports Medicine and Exercise Science and for students to present research papers.

The Northland Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine (NACSM) is a diverse group of professionals and students dedicated to the advancement of sports medicine and exercise science.  The chapter seeks to: communicate scientific information; provide stimulation and support for research; and foster relevant peer interaction and professional growth for students, faculty, clinicians, and other practitioners located in Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and parts of adjoining states and provinces.

Research abstracts submitted from schools throughout the four-state region of NACSM were blind peer-reviewed. Wayne State students were awarded first and third place among 30 submissions in which the top five abstracts received recognition and monetary awards. Amanda Covington of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Amanda Sindelar of Howells were awarded first place for their research abstract titled "Dynamic and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation Warm-up Routines Produce Similar Vertical Jump Performance in Female Athletes" and Darren Richter of Fremont was awarded third place for his abstract titled "Varying Rest Intervals Following Static or Dynamic Stretching has no Effect on Vertical Jump Performance."
