Bockelman to Exhibit Work at Wayne State College
James Bockelman of Seward will display work in Nordstrand Visual Arts Gallery at Wayne State College from Feb. 16 to March 6 through the visiting artists program. The show will begin with an opening from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Feb. 16.
The artist will present a demonstration in the Painting Studio SA 213 at 2:30 p.m. This will be followed by an artist's talk in FA019 from 3:15 to 4 p.m. A reception will follow at the opening of the exhibit in the Nordstrand Visual Arts Gallery, located in the Petersen Fine Arts Building.
"I have developed a visual catalogue that has grown to include images such as pinecones, branches, and cellular forms to renderings of honeycombs, chandeliers, and aerial maps,'' Bockelman said in his artist statement. His show will include paintings and drawings.
Bockelman's art has been featured in one-person exhibitions at the Sheldon Memorial Gallery of Art in Lincoln and at the Museum of Nebraska Art in Kearney. A recipient of the 2007 Individual Artist Fellowship Merit Award from the Nebraska Arts Council, his work has been shown throughout the region and Berlin, Germany.
The exhibit at Wayne State College will be available for viewing at the Nordstrand Visual Arts Gallery from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays while classes are in session.
Since 1993, Bockelman has worked as associate professor of art and director of Marxhausen Gallery of Art at Concordia University Nebraska in Seward. He earned his M.F.A. at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a B.S. at Concordia College in the Seward, Nebraska. Bockelman's art can be found online at: afonline.artistsspace.org
