e-campus password changing mechanism modifications
Published: 2-3-2010 12:15 am
We are, in the interest of security, modifying the "I forgot my password" functionality of eCampus. We will no longer prompt users for both their birth date and social security number or campus wide ID, instead we will begin utilizing a personalized challenge question method. This is the same kind of process currently in place by many banks and other organizations that want to secure the identify of their users.
This new process will still allow users the ability to reset their network password 24 x 7, without asking for any sensitive data. Should users not be able to remember the answers to their challenge questions, the only mechanism to change their password will be to contact the WSC Helpdesk during normal business hours. This is no different than any other secure networking operation.
This installation will require eCampus to be unavailable for a brief moment starting February 11th at 6:00 a.m. The first time you sign into eCampus after the installation is complete, you will be prompted to select three challenge questions from a list and provide your personalized answers. Please use answers to your selected challenge questions which will be memorable to you but not known by others. Once you have completed this step, you will be able to sign into eCampus as normal and will be able to use these new questions to reset your password if the need arises.
There will also be a new eCampus menu option under "Online Resources" labeled "Network Account Maintenance". You can use this option to modify your challenge questions at any time.
If you have any questions, please call the WSC Helpdesk at 7107 extension.
Thank you for your continued cooperation,
