Office 2010 is now available
Published: 8-16-2011 2:20 pm
In preparation for the fall term we are making available a new version of
Microsoft Office, Office 2010, for use on campus.
Microsoft Office includes Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher, Access and a
number of other applications. The 2010 version of all of these applications are
now available (you may need to reboot your computer).
You will see a new "Microsoft Office 2010" folder in your
Start/Applications menu. Inside that folder will be three icons:
Install Office 2010
Install Visio 2010
Install Project 2010
Running the "Install Office 2010" icon will provide you with icons for
Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.
It is very important that you not run any applications during the
installer process. The installer will automatically close Groupwise e-mail and
a few other applications to ensure a successful install. Please do not reopen
these or run any other applications until the installer is finished and you have
rebooted your computer.
Once you have upgraded to the 2010 versions you will no longer have icons
for the 2007 versions of those applications.
The document format between 2007 and 2010 versions is compatible, so you
don't need to worry about "backsaving" your documents when you use Office
We will be sending out another e-mail later this week with a collection of
training materials that you can use to familiarize yourself with the new
applications, and, as always, you can call the helpdesk (7107) for
We will also be scheduling Office 2010 training opportunities this fall,
delivered in face to face classes through the TRC and online through the Sakai
Please don't hesitate to call if you have questions.
Thank you and we at NATS hope you have a wonderful fall semester!
