"Network Issues"

Greetings,

Late last evening we had severe unplanned network issues. One of our main core switches that is the absolute center of the network failed. That failure caused every building on campus to lose connectivity to the Internet, our campus servers and services, and basically put us totally out of service. Fortunately we were able to resolve the issues in a short period of time. Coupled with that crisis we seem to have lost some hard disk activity with GroupWise. We did resolve that as well, but it did take time. We are yet uncertain if the two issues are related or not, but we are checking out all systems to come up with the cause and be sure we do what is possible to eliminate this kind of crisis in the future.
