"Internet Downtime - Yesterday, Sunday, October 19"

Greetings,

Yesterday, Sunday, October 19, our Internet access was unavailable early in the morning until approximately 1:00 PM. Originally we were notified by the University of Nebraska, the hosts of Network Nebraska, that we would have an Internet outage between 6:00 AM and 8:00 AM for router configuration changes. I made the decision not to bother our users with this announcement given it was so early on a Sunday morning on the start of our Fall break. Either problems developed or people did not check to see if all of the participants were back online. Whatever the situation we found the campus to be without Internet service much longer than almost all of the other campuses that would have been affected.

In the future I will send out notifications of all planned outages and hope we can find them to be timely and efficient.
