WebCT Help
Using WebCT Student Homepages
To use the student homepage tool, click on the Student Homepages icon. You should see a list of usernames, including yours. You can view other students' pages, but you can create and change only yours. This is not an advanced web-editor -- keep it simple. If you already have a web page elsewhere, ask your instructor if you can link to it from your WebCT homepage.
Click on your username. You should see a blank page with a banner at the top. To place your name in the banner at the top of the page, click Modify/Add Banner Image. Type your name in the Use Text box and click Continue. You can also delete the banner, or add your own. Be aware that the dimensions of any image you add here should be similar to the WebCT image, or you might squeeze any text off your page.
To add text, click Edit/Add Upper Textblock. Enter your text in the box. If you want to change the font size or color, click HTML Editor. You will see a very simple web-editor that will allow you to make some changes.
To add links to other websites, click the Add Link button. Type in a title, such as Wayne State College, and then the URL, or web address, such as http://www.wsc.edu. Note that WebCT supplies the http:// for you; if you are cutting and pasting a web address, make sure you keep the http://, or your link will not work. If you want to add a different icon (or a photo of yourself -- this is the easiest place to do it) click on the Upload Button and browse to find your digital picture.
You can also add background images (which can very effectively make your page impossible to read, if you're not careful); change the page color scheme; modify the layout; and move your links around by clicking on the appropriate buttons.
