WebCT Help
Using WebCT Email
The first thing to be aware of when using Webct email is that, even though the tool functions as most email systems do, it is confined within the WebCT class. It is not associated nor can it connect with Yahoo, Hotmail or any other email system. Also, WebCT email in one class is not associated with the email in another class.
That said, WebCT email functions in many other respects as most email systems do. Users can send a message to one person or a group of people, forward messages, and attach files.
To read your mail in WebCT, click the Mail icon (you may have to click Communication Tools first), click the Mail icon. Click the folder you wish to open -- typically Inbox, unless your instructor has set up specific folders for you to use. Then click on the subject of a message to read it.
Some users find that setting the Display to All/Unthreaded makes it easier to read the email messages. You can see which view you like better by clicking the All/Unread and Threaded/Unthreaded buttons.
To reply to a message, click Reply, type your message, and click send.
To compose and send a new message, click Compose Message. Click Browse to find the list of students and teachers in the class (remember, external email addresses will not work in WebCT mail). To address a message to one person, click the name and then click Select. To send a message to the entire class, click on the top name and drag through the list to select all names. Click Select. To send a message to several people in the class, click on the first person's name, and then hold down the CTRL key and click on the other names. Click Select.
Enter a subject and then type your message. Click Send.
To attach a file to an email message, click Compose or Reply. Click Browse and find your file on your computer. Select the file and click Open or OK. The filename should appear in the Browse window. Click Attach File. The filename should now appear below the Browse window. Click Send.
