WebCT Technology Requirements

WebCT requires an Internet connection, browser, and associated software. The Internet connection can be a dial-up connection to a home computer but must be at least a 56k modem.

The following are minimum recommended hardware and software requirements necessary for a quality interactive learning experience:

  • A Pentium II-333Mhz speed PC with at least 64MB of RAM running Windows 95, 98, Me, NT, or 2000.
  • A Macintosh running system 7.5 or better.

Check with the instructor for any additional specific computer or software requirements.

WebCT will operate properly with most current versions of Internet Explorer or Netscape Communicator. AOL is not recommended. Pop-up blockers can prevent access to your WebCT class. We recommend installing Mozilla Firefox (free download) to circumvent this problem.

For browser requirements, including versions, java settings, cache control, plug-ins, and more, see: http://www.webct.com/tuneup. This page can also check your computer to make sure it will handle WebCT courses - an excellent option for a home computer and highly recommended!
