Donor Recognition
Greatest Needs Fund
The Wayne State Foundation has played a vital role in supporting the initiatives of the president and building on the success of the past through undesignated gifts. Gifts to Greatest Needs Fund provide resources for operations, scholarships, capital projects, and special needs of the college. In a time of increased competition for students and reduced support from the state, undesignated private support is necessary to enhance the learning environment and strategic initiatives of Wayne State College.
Scholarships
Scholarship dollars are essential to students attending Wayne State College. Gifts can be made to establish a named scholarship fund, to an existing named scholarship fund, or to the general scholarship fund. Listed below are the two types of named scholarship funds at Wayne State Foundation.
Endowed Scholarships [view list of scholarships] Endowed scholarships provide perpetual awards for Wayne State College students. A minimum $10,000 in contributions is required before the scholarship fund begins to be awarded. Endowment funds are invested and only a portion of the earnings are awarded each year as scholarships. See Endowments for more information on how endowment funds at Wayne State Foundation are managed. A contract between the Foundation and donor is developed for each endowed scholarship to outline how the scholarship will be awarded.
Annual Scholarships [view list of scholarships] Annual scholarships are awarded annually to students in the full amount that is received from the donor. Annual scholarships are restricted to a minimum award of $500. They are active only for the time period the donor wishes to fund the scholarship. A contract between the Foundation and donor is developed for each annual scholarship to outline how the scholarship will be awarded. |
Campus Beautification
Campus Beautification funds are used to make improvements to the landscape of the WSC campus. Donors can direct gifts to the campus beautification fund or establish an endowment which will provide annual support to the campus beautification fund in perpetuity.
Schools and Departments
Donors can choose to direct their gifts to the School of Arts & Humanities, School of Business & Technology, School of Education & Counseling, or the School of Natural & Social Sciences. Private funding provides the Dean of each school with resources to augment their state budgets, award department scholarships, and fund new initiatives.
Donors may also choose to designate their giving to other departments on campus such as the Library, Multi-Cultural Center, and STRIDE Program.
Gifts to the schools and departments can be made available for current spending or to fund an endowment which will provide annual support in perpetuity.
Athletic Department
Gifts can be made to a variety of areas in the WSC Athletic Department. Donors can choose to provide funding for athletic scholarships, athletic department operations, and for individual sports. Gifts to the athletic department can be made available for current spending or to fund an endowment which will provide support for the athletic department in perpetuity.
Capital Projects
Gifts for capital project provide funding for construction or renovation of campus buildings or to purchase a major piece of equipment. Listed below are the planned capital projects for which the Wayne State Foundation is currently seeking private support.
