Scholarships - High School Seniors
Students who have shown successful academic and extracurricular participation during high school are eligible for Wayne State College’s Merit Scholarships.
NOTE:
To apply for these scholarships, you must complete the Admission Application:
- Two letters of recommendation from teachers who know you and are familiar with your work.(Multicultural Award applicants ONLY: one letter from a school official and one from someone not directly affiliated with the high school)
- An essay of four hundred to five hundred words on the following: Identify and analyze a problem that affects your community or state. Propose and defend a solution. Please type and double-space the essay.
- A listing of activities, awards, honors, positions and responsibilities received or held which demonstrate your involvement in your high school and community. Applicants will be considered for each of the following scholarships for which they are eligible.
John G. Neihardt Scholars Program
Recipients will be students who have an ACT score of 25 or above and either rank in the top 25% of their high school class or have a 3.5 GPA or better on a 4.0 scale. Recipients receive full tuition, double occupancy room waiver and $500 stipend, renewable for 4 years. This program includes special honors classes and advising. |
Omaha World Herald Scholarship
The recipient will be a Nebraska resident who has an ACT score of 25 or above and either ranks in the top 25% of their high school class or has a 3.5 GPA or better on a 4.0 scale. The recipient will be a student who has been very active in high school leadership roles and plans to continue that level of involvement at Wayne State College. This award provides full tuition and double occupancy room waiver, renewable for 4 years. |
Additional Awards
Students who apply for and qualify for the above awards may be considered for other merit-based scholarships, such as the Presidential Scholarship (full tuition), Dean’s Scholarship ($1,500), and Academic Achievement Scholarship ($500). |
Leadership Award
Recipients will be students who have been very active in high school leadership roles and plan to continue that level of involvement at Wayne State College. Recipients receive a double occupancy room waiver for 2 years, renewable upon review thereafter. |
Multicultural Tuition Award
In an effort to enhance the diversity of Wayne State College, a limited number of scholarships are offered to entering African Americans, Asian and Pacific Islanders, Hispanic Americans and Native American students who have shown previous successful academic and extracurricular participation. Recipients receive full tuition, renewable for 4 years. |
Board of Trustees' Award
The Nebraska State College System’s Board of Trustees offers this scholarship to students who will be attending one of the Nebraska State Colleges. To apply, you must score at least 25 on the ACT or 1130 on the SAT, be a graduating senior from a Nebraska high school, be a resident of Nebraska and enroll as a full-time college student in the fall semester following your high school graduation. This scholarship provides full tuition, renewable for 4 years.

- Obtain a Board of Trustees’ Scholarship application at www.nscs.edu.
- Read and follow the application instructions carefully.
- Submit your completed application to the board office by the deadline.

Non-Resident Scholarship & Student Opportunity Award
Wayne State College rewards students from out-of-state who have demonstrated prior academic excellence by offering these special awards which provide the difference between resident and non-resident tuition. Eligibility is based on a combination of ACT/SAT scores, GPA and class rank. All non-resident students who apply for admission are automatically considered for these awards and recipients are notified on a rolling basis.

Rural Health Opportunities Program (RHOP)
RHOP is a cooperative program between Wayne State College and the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) designed for rural Nebraska students interested in practicing in small communities throughout Nebraska. Selected students will be automatically admitted into the appropriate program at UNMC upon the successful completion of the special curriculum in Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Dental Hygiene or Medical Technology at Wayne State College.

Wayne State Foundation Scholarships
Applicants who meet requirements for specific scholarships will be identified based on the application for admission, including the Wayne State Foundation Scholarship Application questions below. Approximately $500,000 will be awarded. Award eligibility requirements and amounts vary.
