1098-T General Information

As an eligible institution, Wayne State College is required by the Internal Revenue Service to file an annual Tuition Statement (Form 1098-T) for each student for whom a reportable transaction is made (i.e. tuition, fees, and any scholarships or grants received).  This information is provided to assist taxpayers in determining eligibility for claiming Education Tax Credits enacted by the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997.  This information should be combined with your own financial records in determining any impact on your tax return.  Consult relevant IRS publications (i.e. http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p970.pdf).  You are advised to seek tax counsel when appropriate.  In January of each year, the school processes the 1098-T information and mails a copy to the student’s permanent address.  An online copy of the 1098-T form will also be available for students to view and print.  The school will send an email notification to students as soon as the online 1098-T information is available.

How to Access Your 1098-T Form

If you did not receive a 1098-T form in the mail, you may obtain a copy within WildcatsOnline.  Once in WildcatsOnline, click on the Student Account tab and then on the Tax Information (1098T) link.

If you did not receive a 1098-T form in the mail, you should contact the Records and Registration office to update your permanent address for future mailings.  You can e-mail them at: registration@wsc.edu

Account Detail

Amounts reported on the 1098-T might be different than the amount you actually paid.  Students may view and print the details of their account transactions within WildcatsOnline.  Once in WildcatsOnline, click on the Student Account tab and then on the Activity by Term link.  We suggest that students provide each applicable term detail to their tax preparer along with the 1098-T form.  This will assist the tax preparer in determining the tax credit eligibility.

For Questions Relating to 1098-T Reporting by WSC

Students may call the Student Financial Services office at 402-375-7229, for questions regarding how information was reported on the 1098-T.  However, be advised that Wayne State College personnel cannot give tax advice.  Please contact your tax advisor/preparer.
