Committee/Workgroup Updates:

Education and Information Report: Chairperson needed for this group.
Letter and brochure was sent to faculty asking them to plan AOD prevention activities into their syllabi for next semester, see example. Cameron Geisert's Lifestyle Assessment class is bringing in a speaker from the Counseling Center.

Kathy did an “Alcohol Poisoning Prevention” and “Encouraging Moderation in a Binge Drinking Environment” educational presentations for Residence Life January 5.

Greek Council is planning to take the e-CHUG on-line alcohol assessment on February 1.

Two Criminal Justice classes take the e-CHUG tomorrow.

Sending a letter to parents of those turning 21 warning of birthday bar crawls and “power hours”, see example. SADD already sends a postcard to the college student having the 21st birthday. Nearly 300 students turn 21 between September and April.

“The Wayne Stater” agreed to run social norm data from the leisure study done several years ago in their filler space.

Lance Webster and Jessica Benoit of the Wayne Police Department and Karen Granberg and Kathy Mohlfeld of the Counseling Center will be attending the “Creating environmental change” alcohol and drug problems workshops offered by The Network in February. A follow-up workshop is being offered in April and others are welcome to attend.


Policy and Enforcement: Next Safe Ride meeting is 2/10/2006 at 3:00 p.m. in the Counseling Center.

  • Wildcat Wheels yard signs and banners are in use-Thanks to Norfolk Beverage for them making for us.

NU on Wheels program doing very well and requested an increase from $60,000 to $95,000 for their annual budget.

First 2 Thursday nights have been busy for law enforcement. .
Wildcat Wheels budget will be paying for brochure reprints of “So What Is There To Do At Wayne State?” and the TRUST Coalition social norms/leisure study brochure

Wildcat Wheels is co-sponsoring with SAB to bring the drunk driving simulator to campus this semester. More details to follow at next meeting.

We will be running cabs on St. Patrick’s Night, which is a Friday this year.

Amy Franco, Senior Resident Assistant for Morey Hall is coordinating social information for Morey and Pile Halls. Lin will be sharing with her the information that this committee compiles.

New Study Reports Alcohol Ads Increases Chance of Youthful Drinking
An article published in the Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, reports on the results of a longitudinal study conducted to investigate the effect of exposure to alcohol advertising on youthful drinking. To read the article, visit
