(TRUST) Coalition Minutes

February 22, 2006

Present: Ron Vick, Kelly Heithold, Lin Brummels, Dan Baddorf, Cynthia Hruby, Jessica Benoit, Troy Reynolds, Jason Mrsny, Curt Frye, Brian Wiese, Michelle Waldecker and Kathy Mohlfeld.

Nebraska Collegiate Consortium (NCC) to Reduce High Risk Drinking- Curt attended meeting of college and university Vice Presidents in Lincoln. President Collings signed the Memorandum of Agreement to participate. There is a possibility of a press conference on March 1.

Upcoming workshops:

Coalition Development and Environmental Scanning, April 10, 11, or 12 (exact date will be determined soon)
Logic Model and Planning, two day team workshop the week of September 11, 2006 presented by the Higher Education Center.
State Conference, November 2006
Proposed web based alcohol survey of Nebraska students in Fall 2006. It will
be in addition to, not to replace the Core Survey in the spring semester.
Lance Webster and Jessica Benoit of the Wayne Police Department and Karen Granberg and Kathy Mohlfeld of the Counseling Center attended the “Creating environmental change” alcohol and drug problems workshops offered by The Network. A follow-up workshop, Creating Environmental Change, is being offered April 5-6 in Sioux Falls, SD and others are welcome to attend. At a minimum, we would like to have a faculty member and an athletic department representative attend this workshop. We will ask Don Buryanek, faculty member and city councilman to attend.

Committee/Workgroup Updates:

Education and Information Report:

• 20 Greek Council members took the e-CHUG on-line alcohol assessment on February 1. The Aristocats dance team and the Introduction to Sport Management class also took the e-CHUG this month. The Rugby teams are planning on taking the e-CHUG in March. The Delta Sigs business fraternity is taking is individually.
• Two Criminal Justice classes took the e-CHUG in January.
• Audio-teleconferences/Webinars Thursdays at 2:00 p.m. in the Cottonwood Room of the Student Center, see handout
• 2/23/06 How to Effectively Defend the Minimum Legal Drinking Age
• 3/23/06 A Global Look at Youth Drinking
• Core Alcohol and Drug Survey-approximately half-way through survey classes.
  Biennial Review due 12/31/2006; Task Force possible subcommittee of TRUST Coalition
• Looking into finding a formula to figure out how much alcohol abuse costs WSC and or Wayne.
• Ron Vick, Jamie Mackling and Kathy Mohlfeld in the Counseling Center are working on becoming Registered Providers of Substance Abuse Services with the Office of Probation Administration in Nebraska by attending 5 workshops this semester.

Policy and Enforcement: Next Safe Ride meeting is 3/17/2006 at 3:00 p.m.
in the Counseling Center.

• Wildcat Wheels is co-sponsoring with SAB to bring the drunk driving simulator to campus on March 21, 2006. More details will follow. http://www.savealifetour.net/
• We will be running cabs on St. Patrick’s Night, which is a Friday this year.
