The alcohol “death wall”, donated by Melissa
Silvers to the Counseling Center, is now being displayed
at Hartington Public High School by MADD.
Preparations are being made for the Core Alcohol &
Drug Survey in 2005 by the Counseling Center to survey approximately
600 students for the 15th year.
Cassandra Johnson is doing her Honors Program presentation
on “College Student Alcohol Issues: A Comparative
Analysis of WSC and Peer Institutions”; December 8
at 4:30 p.m. in Connell Hall 131. Jason Karsky was her faculty
advisor on the project. Johnson found that WSC students
surveyed wanted more drugs at parties and that WSC students
rank above most of the peer institutions looked at regarding
alcohol use.
Norman Small, Student Trustee, Wayne State College
& Nebraska State College System, organized “Tie
One On For The Holidays”. It is comprised of the
following:
- A simple contract that students, faculty and staff
would fill out and commit to not drinking and driving
from November 15, 2004 thru January 10, 2005.
- When the individual signs the contract they receive
a red ribbon to tie on their vehicle antenna.
- This ribbon would identify them as a participating
member of the program.
If you are interested in signing a pledge, contact
Norman at 371-9785. The Wayne City Council, GAMMA, SADD,
and the Student Senate have all endorsed the program.
Committee/Workgroup Updates:
- Education and Information Report: the next meeting
is Thursday, Dec. 2 in the Goldenrod Room of the Student
Center from 8:15-9:00 a.m. to discuss plans for the
spring semester. Contact Keith Willis at 375-7210
for more information.
• Myth vs. reality trivia questions/quizzes
regarding WSC social norms will be given tonight
during Steak Night at Chartwells. Students will
be rewarded with soda pop and/key chains for participating.
- Neighborhood Relations: Contact Kathy Mohlfeld at
375-7321 for more information.
Karen Granberg, Kathy Mohlfeld, Pastor Cal Kroeker,
Andrea Kay (SADD President) and John Holtz (WSC-PEN
President) attended the Liquor Control Commission
hearing in Lincoln on November 4th. The petition
failed 2-1 in blocking Pamida in granting a liquor
license.
- Policy and Enforcement: Contact Jason Mrsny at 375-7216
or Jason Karsky at 375-7139 for more information.
Safe Ride program: Jeff Carstens is working on
securing transportation for the program, as we will
be unable to use college vans. Kathy and Jeff will
look at the budget this week.
31 MIP citations were issued recently by the WPD
at one party that was composed of mostly high school
students.
- Social Environment: Contact Lin Brummels for more
information at 375-7321. Social events are being updated
on the website twice a month. The new shortcut to
get to the site is www.wsc.edu/trust . Ron will look
into putting counter on the site to measure the number
of hits the site is receiving.
Please contact the Counseling Center at 375-7321 if
you have any suggestions or concerns for the TRUST Coalition.
