MINUTES

Committee Reports:

Policy & Enforcement Report: Jason Karsky talked about using a shuttle bus for a type of safe ride home service on Thursday nights/Friday early mornings. A memo has been forwarded to President Stearns and the group is waiting for a response. At this time, the shuttle bus run by the Main Street Wayne Program during the day is not planning to be a part of this project. Karskys' two Research Methods classes will be doing a student survey regarding a shuttle bus service to better assess student needs and preferences in this area.

The next meeting for this work group will be set after a response from Dr. Stearns is received.

Neighborhood Relations Report: The idea of using a door hanger to provide information to off-campus and on-campus students about neighborhood expectations was discussed. It was suggested that the same information could be put in "The Stater" and "The Wayne Herald", or included with textbooks at the beginning of the semesters.

 

The Wayne High School Concerned Parents Group meeting held in mid-August at the high school was discussed. The group has been invited to join the TRUST Coalition.

 

The next work group meeting is set for Wednesday, 9-18-02 at 2:00 p.m. in the Dean of Student Affair's Conference Room, in the Student Center.

Education & Information Report: The "What Parents Need to Know About College Drinking" flyer was distributed at Freshman Orientation. The "What College Presidents Need to Know About College Drinking" pamphlet was sent to Dr. Stearns in July. Members received the following handouts: "A Guide to Alcohol Education Programs" and "Brief Interventions Effective Against College Drinking".

 

A subcommittee will be led by Jeff Meyer and Todd Barry to obtain NCAA speaker's grant funding (approximately $500) to bring an educational event/forum to WSC in Spring 2003.

 

The next meeting of this work group will be Tuesday, 9-17-02 at 3:30 p.m. Ron Vick will reserve the room and then let members know.

Social Environment Report: AQIP, National Stay in Wayne Weekend and Homecoming weekends were discussed. The "Rainbow of Opportunities in Wayne" booklet was passed around. Copies can be obtained in the Counseling Center or at Copy Write.

 

Greek organization advisors were sent a bulletin regarding alcohol and other drug prevention activities in July.

The next meeting will be set soon.
