Updates from Workgroups/Committees:
Policy & Enforcement Report:
Jason Karsky reported that WSC administration would support
the Safe Ride Program with conditions to be determined
at a later date. The rough draft of for the Thursday evening
shuttle survey that Karskys classes will be administering
is completed. It will need to be sent to the Institutional
Review Board next before it can be administered.
Jason Mrsny reported that he had presented to the
Wayne High School Concerned Parents Group on
9-22-02 to build awareness about drugs, paraphernalia
and the drug culture. He will also be giving the presentation
to the Superintendents Program and a group in
Crofton.

Neighborhood Relations Report:
Karen Granberg reported that a meeting about the WSC
alcohol advertising policy in The Stater is
set for Wednesday, October 23, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. in the
Deans Office, Room 201, Student Center. Linne
Ourada, The Stater Editor; Dr. McElwain, Advisor
to The Stater; Dr. Deb Whitt; and Dr. ODonnell
have been invited to the meeting.
Troy Reynolds spoke with Karen Karr about the Welcome
Wagon practice and if students were included in the
service. At this time, students are not included.
This will be an area that this committee will work
on so that off-campus students would also be welcomed
to the Wayne community.

Education & Information Report:
ext meeting is Tuesday, 10-15-02 at 8:30 a.m. in
the Bluestem Room of the Student Center.
Heather Hein was welcomed as a new member of this group.
She will be doing an Honors Project on this topic.
Heather and Dr. Keith Willis will be focusing on constructing
a survey to discover positive social norms and then create
a flyer for distribution of the information.
A student writing competition sponsored by the Inter-Association
Task Force on Alcohol & Other Substance Abuse Issues
was discussed. Several substantial scholarships are the
prizes for 3 winners. A student from UN-L won the competition
last year. Check out www.iatf.org/essay.htm
for more information.
We discussed events for Red Ribbon Week and National
Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week (NCAAW) this fall.
Simera Reynolds of Mother Against Drunk Driving, suggested
an idea to Kathy Mohlfeld earlier in the month. Her
idea was to use .08 BAC simulated intoxication goggles
and have students drive golf carts through an obstacle
course during half time at a football game. This would
be an educational event to show how impaired driving
is when using alcohol. Jason Karsky suggested that
we also use a visual aid of pairs of shoes displayed
in a busy area of the stadium to show the number of
people killed in drunk driving accidents last year.
Todd Barry, Athletic Director suggested a date of
November 16, 2002. Kathy Mohlfeld will check with
Reynolds for further programming ideas to ensure that
this activities focus is educational and not
entertainment.

Social Environment Report:
One finding of the Title III Grant focus groupsWSC
needs to do a better job of showing that there are
many activities already in place for students (the
breadth of activities available is surprising to many
students). This committee will tackle this project
of getting a master calendar of social events in Wayne
and at WSC and making it visible to students via a
website and a brochure.

11/13/2002 at 2:00 p.m. in the Cottonwood Room.
