Toward Responsible Use of Substances Today
(TRUST) Coalition
December 3, 2002
2:00 p.m., Cottonwood Room
MINUTES
Present: Lin Brummels, Anne Collins, Curt Frye, Heather
Hein, Lindsay Jensen, Jason Karsky, Kathy Mohlfeld, Jason
Mrsny, Erin Wagner, Anne Willis, Keith Willis.
Summary of Core 2002 report-see Kathy Mohlfeld at the
Counseling Center for more information.
Committees Reports:
Policy & Enforcement Report: Safe Ride
Program - Karsky reported that his Social Science
Research Methods classes created the survey and completed
the data collection: 422 (43.8% male & 56.1% female)
WSC students were surveyed about their perception
of initiating a safe-ride program. Students also indicated
that they would like the bars (82%) and Wayne East/Texaco
(66.4%) included on the shuttle route. See Jason Karsky
in the WSC Criminal Justice Department for more information.
Neighborhood Relations Report: no report
Education & Information Report: Student
writing competition essays have been collected. The
committee is still accepting donations to increase
the prize amounts, as only $50.00 more is needed to
double the prizes for second and third place, see
Keith Willis or Ron Vick, Sr. The prizes will be awarded
in January 2003. It was suggested that the prizes
be given away at a home WSC basketball game to increase
exposure.
Heather Hein will be doing an honors project next
semester on Social Norms at WSC. She will be starting
with surveying students. We will try to coordinate
this project with the Core Survey so that we dont
survey the same classes.
Social Environment Report: Flyer example for
social activities composed by Rachel Arterburn and Donna
Ewing, see attached.
Subcommittee: Fatal Vision Goggles Demonstration
during half-time of football game Nov. 16th.: 843
people attended the game. Thank you: 12 Student-Athlete
Advisory Committee members who participated in the
obstacle course demonstration; Todd Barry for organizing
the student-athletes, Dan Baddorf for announcing the
event, and SADD members who put up the shoe display.
Future Ideas: Have an area set up for members
of the audience to try out the goggles after the
demonstration; bring a digital camera so we can
put pictures of the event on the website.
Next Meeting: Thursday, 1/23/2003 at 3:30 p.m. in the
Goldenrod Room. Check the TRUST Coalition website for minutes
of meetings.
Happy Holidays!
