The Clothesline Project is a silent exhibit and self-expression of the violence which plagues our community. The Clothesline Project originated on October of 1990 on the village green in Hyannis, Massachusettes. As part of an annual Take back the Night March and Rally. 31 t-shirts were displayed, throughout the day, women came forward to create shirts and the line kept growing.
The Clothesline Project honors survivors as well as victims of intimate violence. Any person who has experienced such violence, at any time in his /her life is encouraged to come forward and design a shirt. Victim's families and friends are also invited to participate. It is the very process of designing a shirt that gives each person a new voice with which to expose an often unspeakable and horrific experience that has altered the course of his/her life.
Throughout the month of April T-shirts with their powerful messages are on display in the Student Center Atrium. This display is co-sponsored by the Haven House, they provided the T-shirts and volunteer support to hang this project, as well as the encouragement to bring this powerful display to our campus.
