SAVE Coalition Meeting Minutes June 15, 2004
In attendance: Samantha Wolfe, Derek Anderson, Jason Mrsny,
Tanya Mitchell,
Jeff Carstens, Karen Granberg, Jamie Paulson, Lin Brummels,
Michelle Meyer.
The meeting was called to order, the minutes from the April
meeting were read and approved as read. There was no meeting
of the SAVE Coalition in May.
Old business items discussed:
The law enforcement training provided by Kristen Houser
on may 15th 2004 was well attended 27 persons including
campus and community law enforcement as well as a variety
of service providers including mental health counselors
and victim service advocates. The training was very well
received.
The Policy: Work is still going forward on the policy.
Clarification needs to made on our campus as to where
the reports are going and what is being included for the
Clery report, right now we don’t seem to have an
agreed upon designated reporting repository for this information.
Peer Education: Alternative funding is available
to offer this class.
Peer drama: New scripts have been received, and preparation
is under way for fall orientation. A series of trainings
have been started on Saturdays in May, June and July.
New Buisness discussed:
Women’s Cooperative: Michelle will take over
as leader of this group. The big agenda item is the
coordination of the campus and worldwide campaigns
for production of the “Vagina Monologues’
at WSC and in the community of Norfolk. The group
also wants to coordinate providing provider support
and collaboration of services for women and others
in our catchment areas. In addition Michelle, Jamie
and Karen are meeting with a group of interested students
to facilitate and support their efforts on the campus
campaign.
Brochure a new informational brochure for the SAVE Program
and the issues of relationship violence, sexual assault
and stalking has been created and will be submitted for
printing.
Preparation are underway for the RA training scheduled
for August 17, 2004. The four hour training will incorporate
a variety of mediums and learning vehicles including
the “Tough Guise” video which has been
ordered through the grant monies.
An additional objective of the grant was to inform other
IHE of our website. A letter to that effect was sent out
to all two and four year institutions in Nebraska.
The final agenda item is the upcoming CALCASA Institute
in Minneapolis. Jeff Carsten will attend instead of
Tammy Tyson as the institute requested someone from
judicial administration to attend.
Other Items discussed:
Tanya from Haven House brought up the need of pager
coverage during the summer months and whether or not
that is something faculty or others could help with.
RAD is still in a holding pattern. Waiting for the
new administration to settle in.
The next meeting will be scheduled for July 12, 2004 at
a location on campus yet to be determined. Meeting adjourned
at 4:05 pm
Respectfully submitted,
Michelle
