Minutes of the VAWOC Coalition Meeting;
The meeting was held in the Student Activities Room at WSC
on 12/08/2003 at 3:30.
In attendance:
Curt Frye, Brandy Frevert, Ilene Nichols, Brook Jech,
Connie Bargstadt, Samantha Wolfe, Andrea Kucera, Kathy
Mohlfeld, Tanya Walters, Ron Vick, JoAnn Bondhus,
Lin Brummels, Deb Scholten, Paul Campbell, Jeff Carstens,
Karen Granberg, Jamie Paulson, and Michelle Meyer.
Michelle opened the meeting. She thanked everyone for their
attendance and support of Lin and Kathy who wrote the grant
to reduce violence against women on campus. The Grant was
awarded to WSC through thr Dept. of Justice in the amount
of $198,141.00 for two years. WSC received notification
of the grant award in midOctober.
Introduction of the full and half-time personnel were made:
Michelle Meyer has been hired as the full-time counselor/grant
director and Jamie Paulson will be the half-time counselor
in charge of education programming.
Everyone in attendance introduced themselves and gave
a little background, their affiliation, why they were
here and/or supported the grant. As well as any ideas
or expectations for what we might accomplish having
received the grant award.
Announcement was made of some exciting things that have/are
happening in
the community and on campus:
- The formation of a Sexual Assault Response Team
between Providence Medical Center and the Wayne P.D.
personnel
- The faculty senate has been discussing the need
for and formation of a women's issues committee.
- The hiring of a Director of Human Resources for
WSC is under way.
We hope to work with, support and benefit from all
these positive developments.
Suggestions were solicited for a possible name acronym
for the violence against women on campus program. One possible
CAT's Against Violence ( Community Action Team Against Violence)
any other suggestions? Let those creative juices flow and
send your ideas back.
Ad hoc committee to review and revise WSC's policy
and procedures addressing sexual assault, dating violence
and stalking. This will be a necessary first objective
of the grant, to allow everyone to respond and educate
effectively and accurately on these topics.
- Suggested names: Pearl Hansen, Jean Karlen, Joann
Bondhus, Barb Black, Jeff Carstens, Lin Brummels,
Michelle Meyer
- Other names suggested : Laura Barelman and Barb
Engbretsen. Any others?
This would allow for school representation. These
individuals will be contacted via e-mail to assess
their interest and then a formal letter of appointment
would come from the presidents' office.
Next meeting was set for Monday January 26.2004 @ 3:30
notification of the place and reminders will be sent out.*
The meeting was adjourned at 4:30
