Credential File - Frequently Asked Questions
Here are the most frequently asked questions by students and alumni who want to use their credential file. If you don't find the answer to your question, please call us and we will assist you.
Question: How can I get my credential file sent to a school district?
Answer: a) Make a written request listing the name and complete address of the school. You may fax (402-375-7072) or e-mail your request. Requests cannot be taken over the phone, b) Pay the applicable fees.
Question: How much does it cost to send my file out?
Answer: The Basic Service fee is $30.00. This entitles you to have 10 sets of credentials mailed to the schools you request. Individual files will be mailed at $4.00 per set.
Question: Once received by the Teacher Recruitment Office, how long does it take my request to be processed and mailed to the district?
Answer: Requests are processed on a first received - first processed basis. For the most part, requests are processed the same day the request is made. During the peak hiring period, it may take longer.
Question: Is there a fee to update my file?
Answer: No. You only pay a fee when you request that your file be sent out. Adding or deleting letters of recommendation can be done at no charge. REMEMBER, CHANGES TO YOUR FILE MUST BE MADE IN WRITING.
Question: What is included in my credential file?
Answer: a) Your transcripts - from WSC and other institutions,
b) Your letters of recommendation (3 letter minimum),
c) Student teaching evaluations,
d) Copy of teaching certificate (optional).
****WSC Credential Files DO NOT include PPST, MAT and/or NTE scores
Question: How will I know if all of my recommendations have been received?
Answer: Please, call our office, (402) 375-7327, and we will check your file to see which letters have been received. Unfortunately, our office does not have the staffing availability to contact each person when their letters arrive.
Question: When should I send my file to a district?
Answer: You should make your written request at approximately the same time that you send your completed application to a district.
Question: What should I do if a district wants my file ASAP?
Answer: You may request that your file be faxed to a district. To do so, we need a) a written request, b) the fax number of the district, and c) a $10.00 payment in addition to any other file fees.
Question: Are my transcripts from WSC automatically sent over to the Career Services Office from the Registrar's after I have completed a class or a degree program?
Answer: No. You should make a written request to the WSC Registrar's Office and pay the required fee after you have completed additional coursework or have completed a degree to update your transcripts in your credential file.
