2006: Ran a season-best time of 18:48 at the Briar Cliff Invite on 10-7-06 to win the invite. . . Competed in seven meets and finished in the top 10 in four of those meets. . . Selected the NSIC Runner of the Week on 10-2-06 after finishing 8th at the WSC Pre-Regional with a time of 23:26. . . Finished runner up at the NSIC Championships in St. Paul, Minn., on 10-21-06 with a time of 23:30. . . Ran a personal best time of 22:48 at the North Central Regional on 11-4-06 to finish 22nd. . . Selected to the All-Conference Team.

Former WSC pitcher Nick Schumacher was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 28th round Friday afternoon in the 2008 MLB First-Year Player Draft. The Nebraska City native was the 855th overall pick and it marks the second straight year a WSC pitcher was taken in the MLB Draft.

The WSC baseball team was ranked 24th in the final NCAA Division II Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Top 30 Coaches Poll released on June 2. The 40-13 Wildcats won the NSIC regular season title for a fifth straight season and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth consecutive year and sixth time in the last eight years.

Wayne State's Nick Schumacher was selected to a pair of All-American Teams Tuesday afternoon, earning First Team honors from Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association and Third Team All-American honors from Daktronics and voted on by sports information directors across the country. Schumacher posted a 13-2 record this season with a 2.36 ERA to earn 2008 NSIC Pitcher of the Year honors.
