WSC SELECTED
SIXTH IN 2007 NSIC PRESEASON COACHES POLL
August 8------The Wayne State
College women’s soccer team has been picked for a sixth
place finish in the Northern Sun Conference according to the
2007 NSIC Preseason Women’s Soccer Coaches Poll released
Wednesday afternoon by the league office in St. Paul, Minnesota.
The Wildcats collected 51 points in voting by the leagues’
10 head coaches.
Wayne State finished sixth last season in the NSIC with a
4-4-1 league mark, going 9-10-2 overall. The Wildcats had
a strong finish to the season, reaching the semi-finals of
the NSIC Tournament before settling for fourth place.
Defending regular season champion Winona State was tabbed
the preseason favorite in the NSIC for the eighth straight
season, receiving eight first-place votes and 89 points in
the poll. The University of Mary, who upset Winona in the
NSIC Tournament Finals last season, were second with 81 points
and one first-place vote while Northern State came in third
place with 67 points and one first-place tally. Rounding out
the NSIC Preseason Poll were Concordia-St. Paul in fourth
with 63 points, Bemidji State in fifth (60), then Wayne State,
Upper Iowa (39), Southwest Minnesota State (37), MSU Moorhead
(34) and Minnesota, Crookston (19).
Senior midfielder/forward Gena Romano and sophomore defender
Christina King were listed as players to watch for Wayne State
in the NSIC this season. Romano (Lincoln Southwest HS) played
three different positions for the Wildcats last season, recording
six points with two goals and two assists, while King (Millard
West HS) had a stellar freshman season at defender for the
Wildcats, recording one assist.
Wayne State opens the 2007 season at Minnesota State in Mankato,
Minnesota on Saturday, August 25 at 2:00 p.m.

ANNOUNCED FOR 2007 WSC WOMEN'S SOCCER RECRUITING CLASS

women’s soccer head coach Brooke Bredenberg has announced
nine signings and two walk-ons to her 2007 recruiting class.
The following players will join the Wildcat soccer program
this fall:
Amber Beecher – walk on – Omaha, Nebraska
(Millard West HS): Beecher will walk on at Wayne
State after playing at Millard West High School…helped
high school team reach Class A semi-finals in 2006 and a 13-4
record…Amber played club soccer with Phoenix United.
Stephanie Bright, forward – 5’4”-
Columbus, Nebraska (Columbus HS): Bright is a four-year
letter winner and two year starter at Columbus High School…scored
12 goals with two assists as a junior to earn First Team All-Conference
and honorable mention All-State honors…has 21 career
goals and five assists entering senior season at Columbus
HS.
Coach Bredenberg comments on Bright: “Stephanie will
be a key forward for us next year with her speed and hard
shot. I see her making a large impact on the team.”
Mikayla Comba (pronounced comb-ah), midfielder/forward
- 5’4” – Omaha, Nebraska (Millard South
HS): Comba is a two-year starter at Millard South
High School, earning honorable mention all-state honors as
a junior…also competes in cross country, making state
as an individual qualifier during junior season.
Bredenberg’s comments on Comba: “Mikayla is a
very versatile player who can play a number of possessions.
She has a great work ethic and an amazing attitude.”
Erin Fullmer – midfielder/defender – 5’3”
– Beatrice, Nebraska (Beatrice HS): Fullmer
was a four-year starter at Beatrice High School, helping the
Lady Orange to district runner up finishes in 2004 and 2006…named
Academic All-State in soccer in 2006 to go with honorable
mention all-state honors.
Bredenberg’s comments on Fullmer: “Erin has a
very good work ethic and is very aggressive as a midfielder
and defender. I coached Erin at Beatrice in the spring of
2006 and she will add to an already great midfield presence
that we have on the Wildcat team.”
Ashley Janca – midfielder – 5’9”
– Bellevue, Nebraska (Bellevue West HS): Janca
is a three-year starter and letter winner and was team captain
as a junior…also lettered and started three years in
cross country…club team Azzurri Valencia was state runner
up last year.
Bredenberg on Janca: “Ashley has great vision and soccer
awareness. Along with her great crosses, we will be counting
on her to help add experience and depth to our squad.”
Charis Oswald (prounced care-us) walk
on – forward – 5’1” – Council
Bluffs, Iowa (Thomas Jefferson HS): Oswald is a multi-sport
standout at Thomas Jefferson HS, starring in cross country,
track and field and soccer…had five goals and four assists
as a junior in 2006…named first team academic all-state
in soccer.
Bredenberg on Oswald: “Charis is a great athlete who
can play a number of positions on the field. She has a great
work ethic and will bring a lot of energy to the team.”
Sara Schwieger (pronounced schwee-ger)–
defender – 5’5” – Omaha, Nebraska
(Millard West HS): Schwieger is a three-year starter
at Millard West HS, helping her team to a 13-4 record and
a berth in the Class A semi-finals in 2006…also qualified
for state cross country in 2004…played club soccer for
Azzurri Valencia and helped team to state runner up finish
in 2005.
Bredenberg on Schwieger: “Sara is a very strong defender
and plays with a lot of heart. She is going to make an immediate
impact on our defensive line.”
Melisse Sullivan (pronounced muh-lease) –
midfielder – 5’7” – Champlin, Minnesota
(Osseo HS): Sullivan comes from the hometown of WSC
head coach Brooke Bredenberg and played club soccer for the
Twin Cities Fire.
Bredenberg on Sullivan: “Melisse will be a key player
for the Wildcats in the midfield. She is a very talented player
who possesses great footwork and skill. Melisse will contribute
a lot to our team.”
Anna Walker – defender – 5’5”
– Beatrice, Nebraska (Beatrice HS): Anna is
a four-year letter winner in cross country and soccer at Beatrice
HS…played for Coach Bredenberg in spring of 2006…selected
to 2006 River Cities All-Conference team…played club
soccer for the Beatrice Night Hawks.
Bredenberg on Anna Walker: “Anna will be a key left
footed defender for the team. Her amazing endurance and speed
will have a big impact on our defensive line. We look for
Anna to do great things in the future for Wildcat soccer.”
Emily Walker (not related to Anna Walker)
– goalkeeper/defender – 5’6”
– Beatrice, Nebraska (Beatrice HS): Emily Walker
is one of four players from Beatrice High School to join the
Wildcat program and will play soccer and softball at Wayne
State College…four-year letter winner in both sports,
starting three seasons in each sport…two-time Class
B All-State softball player.
Bredenberg on Emily Walker: “Emily is capable of making
an impact with her great goal keeping skills and also as a
defender. Emily always has a smile on her face and will bring
a lot to this team next season.”
Krista Zarybnicky (pronounced zar-buh-nick-ee)
– defender/goalkeeper – 5’9”
– Odell, Nebraska (Beatrice HS): Zarybnicky
earned academic all-state and all-conference honors as a junior
and was honorable mention all-conference…also played
volleyball and basketball at Beatrice HS.
Bredenberg on Zarybnicky: “Krista can play anywhere
I put her. She is a solid defender and goalkeeper and is very
good at winning the ball in the air and ground. Krista will
bring a lot to the team next season.”
“The 2007 recruiting class is large with a variety of
talent,” said Coach Bredenberg. “With the work
ethic of each of these ladies, we will do great things at
Wayne State College.” WSC lost four senior from last
season’s team that finished 9-10-2 in 2006 during Bredenberg’s
first season with the Wildcats.

BENSON EARNS SECOND TEAM ALL-CENTRAL REGION HONORS FROM NSCAA
December 7-------Melissa Benson
of Wayne State College has been named to the National Soccer
Coaches Association of America All-Central Region Second Team.
It’s the second time Benson was selected to the team
after earning First Team All-Central Region honors last season
as a junior.
Benson, a 5-9 senior midfielder from Maple Grove, Minnesota,
scored three goals with two assists for eight points this
season. She was named to the Northern Sun Conference First
Team for a third straight season and finished her career ranked
fifth in goals (24), sixth in points (54), sixth in shots
(152) and sixth in shots on goal (76). Benson was also named
to the NSIC All-Academic Team for a third straight season.
Wayne State finished the 2006 season with a 10-10-1 overall
record and a 4-4-1 mark in the NSIC.

IN DOUBLE OVERTIME TO CONCORDIA-ST. PAUL IN CONSOLATION MATCH
OF NSIC WOMEN'S SOCCER TOURNAMENT
October 28----Rachel Vitense of Concordia-St.
Paul scored an unassisted goal at the 7:11 mark of the second
overtime to give Concordia-St. Paul a 1-0 win in two overtimes
over Wayne State in the consolation match of the Northern
Sun Conference women’s soccer tournament played in Winona,
Minnesota Saturday afternoon.
WSC held a 20-12 shot advantage over Concordia-St. Paul but
could not score against the Golden Bears. The Wildcats nearly
ended the game in regulation when Gena Romano just missed
a goal, hitting the post in the 85th minute. Concordia-St.
Paul held a slight 3-2 edge in corner kicks over the Wildcats.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jamie Anderson played the entire contest
for WSC, recording six saves. Senior Melissa Benson recorded
five shots to lead Wayne State’s 20 shot attack on Concordia-St.
Paul.
Four WSC seniors played their final games in a Wildcat uniform.
They include Sarah James (Kearney), M.A. Liebentritt (Lincoln
Pius), Melissa Benson (Maple Grove, Minn.) and Lindsay Wood
(Millard West).
Wayne State finishes the 2006 season with a record of 9-10-2.
WINONA STATE TOPS WAYNE
STATE 3-0 IN NSIC SEMI-FINALS
October 27-----Winona State scored three
goals in the first 13:21 to record a 3-0 win over Wayne State
Friday evening in the Northern Sun Conference Women’s
Soccer Tournament semi-finals played in Winona, Minnesota.
Winona State moves to 14-4-2 and now faces the University
of Mary (ND) in the championship game Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
while Wayne State slips to 9-9-2 on the year and will meet
Concordia-St. Paul in the third-place match at 4:00 p.m. Mary
topped Concordia-St. Paul 1-0 in the other semi-final Friday.
Winona State used goals by Kayla Walters at the 4:01 mark,
Christine Beatty at 9:59 and Holly Sutton at the 13:21 mark
to grab the early 3-0 lead and that’s all the Warriors
would need to blank Wayne State. The Warriors held a 13-11
shot advantage over Wayne State and had nine corner kicks
compared to three for the Wildcats. Winona State goalkeeper
Amanda Diehn had five saves while posting a shutout for the
Warriors while WSC goal tender Jamie Anderson made two saves
for the Wildcats.

NAMED TO NSIC ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM
October 26-----Three members of the Wayne
State College women’s soccer team were named to the
Northern Sun Conference All-Conference Team announced by the
league office today. Senior defender Melissa Benson received
First Team recognition while senior defender Sarah James and
senior forward M.A. Liebentritt each earned Second Team honors.
Benson, a 5-9 senior from Maple Grove, Minnesota, collected
First Team All-NSIC honors for the third straight season after
scoring three goals with two assists for eight points this
season while playing defender. In her WSC career, Benson ranks
sixth in career goals with 24 and sixth in career points with
54. Benson is also a two-time NSIC All-Academic selection.
James, a 5-4 senior defender from Kearney, Neb., was named
to the Second Team after earning honorable mention honors
as a junior and First Team accolades as a sophomore. James
had three goals and one assist for seven points this season
to rank fourth on the team in points. Her aggressive defensive
play helped the Wildcats post six shutouts this season.
Liebentritt, a 5-6 senior forward from Lincoln Pius X High
School, led WSC in scoring this season with eight goals and
three assists for 19 points to earn Second Team All-NSIC honors.
She also led the team in scoring as a sophomore with nine
goals and 10 assists for 28 points. In her career, Liebentritt
ranks fifth in career goals with 25 and fifth in career points
with 65.
Wayne State, 9-8-2 on the season, will face top-seed Winona
State in the semi-finals of the Northern Sun Conference Tournament
Friday evening in Winona starting at 6:00 p.m.

WINONA STATE IN NSIC TOURNAMENT SEMI-FINALS FRIDAY NIGHT IN

October 24-----The Wayne State College women’s
soccer team will face top-seeded Winona State in the semi-finals
of the Northern Sun Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament
on Friday evening (October 27) at 6:00 p.m. at Midwest Wireless
Stadium in Winona, Minnesota. The sixth-seeded Wildcats advanced
in the tournament on Tuesday afternoon with a penalty kick
shootout win (4-3) at third-seed Bemidji State after the two
teams battled to a 0-0 tie after regulation and two overtime
periods. The first semi-final on Friday at 3:00 p.m. will
feature #2 seed Concordia-St. Paul against #5 seed University
of Mary.
First round scores on Tuesday saw #1 seed Winona State defeat
Upper Iowa 3-0, #2 seed Concordia-St. Paul topped #7 MSU Moorhead
3-1, #6 seed Wayne State outlasted #3 seed Bemidji State in
a penalty kick shootout and #5 seed University of Mary surprised
#4 seed Northern State 1-0.
Wayne State is 9-8-2 on the season entering this weekend’s
semi-finals while Winona State is 13-4-2. Winona State will
also host the finals on Saturday, October 28 with the consolation
game starting at 4:00 p.m. followed by the championship game
at 7:00 p.m.

KNOCKS OFF THIRD SEEED BEMIDJI STATE IN PENALTY KICK SHOOTOUT
IN FIRST ROUND OF NSIC SOCCER TOURNAMENT
October 24-----Sixth seeded Wayne State
College knocked off #3 seed Bemidji State in the first round
of the Northern Sun Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament
played Tuesday afternoon in Bemidji, Minnesota as the Wildcats
topped the Beavers in a penalty kick shootout 4-3 after the
two teams battled to a 0-0 tie after 90 minutes of regulation
and two overtime periods.
Millard South freshman Katie Kelley scored the game winner
in the penalty kick shootout for the Wildcats. Other scorers
for Wayne State in the penalty kick shootout were Melissa
Benson, Jenna Pendley and Kate Goss.
Both teams had eight shots in regulation with WSC recording
four shots on goal compared to Bemidji State’s one.
Wildcat sophomore goaltender Jamie Anderson (Millard South)
recorded one save for WSC in the win, improving her record
on the season to 8-5-2. Bemidji State, however, held an 11-1
advantage over Wayne State in corner kicks.
With the win, Wayne State moves to 9-8-2 on the season and
will advance to this weekend’s semi-finals with an opponent
and site to be determined.
WILDCATS TO VISIT BEMIDJI
STATE IN FIRST ROUND OF NSIC TOURNAMENT
October 22-----The Wayne State College women’s
soccer team is seeded sixth for the Northern Sun Conference
Women’s Soccer Tournament which begins on Tuesday, October
24. The Wildcats, 9-8-1 overall and 4-4-1 in the NSIC, travels
to third-seeded Bemidji State in a 1:00 p.m. game to open
first round play. The Beavers are 10-6-1 overall and finished
6-3 in NSIC play. In the regular season, Wayne State recorded
a 3-1 win at Bemidji State on September 17.
Other first round games scheduled for Tuesday find top-seed
Winona State hosting Upper Iowa, #4 seed Northern State welcoming
#5 seed University of Mary and second-seeded Concordia-St.
Paul entertaining #7 seed MSU Moorhead.
The highest remaining seed left after the first round will
host the semi-finals and finals of the NSIC Women’s
Soccer Tournament either Friday and Saturday (October 27 and
28) or Saturday and Sunday (October 28 and 29).

WAYNE STATE PAST SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE 5-2
October 21------Wayne State College posted
a 5-2 win over Southwest Minnesota State in Northern Sun Conference
women’s soccer played on a chilly Saturday afternoon
in Wayne to close out the regular season. The Wildcats are
9-8-1 overall and 4-4-1 in the NSIC while SMSU falls to 3-10-2
overall and 2-6-1 in the NSIC.
Senior forward M.A. Liebentritt opened the scoring at the
7:56 mark on an 18-yard shot from the right side to give Wayne
State a 1-0 lead. Southwest Minnesota State tied the score
at 1-1 in the 19th minute on a goal by Kristel Fortner, but
the Wildcats came back three minutes later with a goal from
sophomore Jenna Pendley, her fifth of the season, to put the
Wildcats back in front 2-1. Liebentritt scored her second
goal of the game and eighth of the season in the 28th minute
to give WSC a 3-1 lead. However, Liz Schiesl scored for the
Mustangs at the 31:11 mark to make the score 3-2 at halftime.
In the second half, WSC scored a pair of quick goals to put
the game out of reach as senior defender Sarah James scored
off a corner kick in the 47th minute and Melissa Benson added
an insurance goal at the 49:21 mark to make the final score
5-2.
WSC had a 17-14 advantage in shots over SMSU while both teams
notched seven corner kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper Jamie Anderson
had two saves while allowing two goals to improve her record
to 8-5-1 on the season.
Wayne State will play a first-round road game on Tuesday in
the NSIC Tournament at a site to be determined.
WILDCATS SNAP SIX-GAME WINLESS
STREAK WITH 2-0 WIN OVER MSU MOORHEAD
October 15-----The Wayne State College women’s
soccer team snapped a six-game winless streak Sunday afternoon
with a 2-0 Northern Sun Conference win over MSU Moorhead on
Parent’s Day at the WSC Soccer Complex. WSC is now 8-8-1
on the season and 3-4-1 in the NSIC while MSU Moorhead falls
to 4-9-3 overall and 2-4-2 in the NSIC.
After a scoreless first half where MSU Moorhead outshot Wayne
State 11-7, the Wildcats came out very aggressive in the second
half and outshot the Dragons 15-0 while scoring a pair of
goals to pick up the win. Junior Gena Romano opened the scoring
in the 52nd minute with a six yard shot for her second goal
of the year to put the Wildcats ahead 1-0. Senior M.A. Liebentritt
added an insurance goal, her sixth of the season, for WSC
at the 71:58 mark when she put in a 10-yard shot off a rebound
to give Wayne State the 2-0 win.
WSC ended with a 22-11 advantage in shots over the Dragons
while both teams had four corner kicks. Wildcat goaltender
Jamie Anderson played nearly 86 of the 90 minutes and recorded
four saves to team up with Rachel Fuchs for the shutout. MSUM
goalkeeper Morgan Landwehr had eight saves while allowing
two goals for the Dragons.
Wayne State will wrap up their regular season at home next
Saturday with a Northern Sun Conference contest against Southwest
Minnesota State on Senior Day starting at 1 p.m. at the WSC
Soccer Complex.
CONCORDIA-ST. PAUL
BLANKS WAYNE STATE 2-0
October 14-----Concordia-St. Paul blanked
Wayne State 2-0 in Northern Sun Conference women’s soccer
played Saturday in Wayne at the WSC Soccer Complex. The visiting
Golden Bears move to 7-9-1 overall and 5-2 in the NSIC while
dropping Wayne State to 7-8-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the NSIC.
Concordia-St. Paul opened the scoring at the 15:41 mark in
the first half when Rachel Vitense scored on a penalty kick,
beating WSC goaltender Jamie Anderson with a shot just inside
the left corner post to give the Golden Bears a 1-0 lead.
CSP added an insurance goal with just under four minutes remaining
when Sam Voeller blasted a 25-yard shot past Wildcat goalkeeper
Jamie Anderson to make the final score 2-0.
Wayne State held a 17-7 advantage in shots over Concordia-St.
Paul and had a 7-1 edge in corner kicks over the Golden Bears.
CSP goalkeeper Keyton Wheelock recorded six saves in the shutout
win for the Golden Bears while Jamie Anderson was credited
with four saves for Wayne State.
Wayne State will be back in action again on Sunday afternoon
hosting MSU Moorhead in a Parent’s Day contest starting
at 1 p.m. in Wayne.
WINONA STATE POSTS 5-0 WIN OVER
WILDCATS
October 1 --------Winona State scored five
first half goals, including three in the first nine minutes,
to post a 5-0 Northern Sun Conference women’s soccer
win over Wayne State Sunday afternoon in Winona, Minnesota.
With the loss, Wayne State falls to 7-7-1 overall and 2-3-1
in the NSIC while Winona State moved into first place in the
NSIC at 3-0-1 and 6-4-2 overall.
Wayne State was held to just six shots in the game while the
host Warriors got off 26 shots, including 12 shots on goal
to just four for the Wildcats. Freshman Rachel Fuchs was in
goal for the Wildcats, earning seven saves while allowing
five goals. M.A. Liebentritt had four of the six shots recorded
by Wayne State in the loss.
Wayne State is off until Saturday, October 14 when the Wildcats
host Concordia-St. Paul at 10:30 a.m.
WAYNE STATE, UPPER IOWA BATTLE
TO 1-1 TIE
September 30-----Wayne State and Upper Iowa
battled to a 1-1 tie in Northern Sun Conference women’s
soccer played Saturday afternoon in Fayette, Iowa. The Wildcats
are now 7-6-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the league while the Peacocks
are 4-5-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the NSIC.
Upper Iowa opened the scoring in the 32nd minute on a goal
by Amy Campbell to take a 1-0 lead. Wayne State responded
seven minutes later when Megan Kenealy scored an unassisted
goal at the 39:32 mark to make the score 1-1 at halftime.
Neither team scored in the second half or in the two overtime
periods as the Wildcats settled for a 1-1 tie.
Wayne State outshot Upper Iowa 13-12 and had a 9-6 advantage
in shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Jamie Anderson was
credited with five saves while allowing just one goal.
Wayne State will wrap up their Northern Sun Conference road
trip with a 1 p.m. game at Winona State Sunday afternoon.
TOP-RANKED UNO POSTS 2-0 SHUTOUT
WIN OVER WAYNE STATE
September 27-----Top-ranked and defending
NCAA Division II national champion Nebraska-Omaha posted a
2-0 shutout win over Wayne State in non-conference women’s
college soccer played Wednesday afternoon in Omaha. The Mavericks
improve to 10-0 on the season while Wayne State suffers their
third straight loss and falls to 7-6 overall.
UNO’s Brandie Beal opened the scoring in the 35th minute,
scoring her fourth goal of the season on a penalty kick to
grab a 1-0 lead for the Mavericks. In the 71st minute, Casey
Bigsby gave the Mavericks an insurance goal off an assist
from Amanda Iwansky to round out the scoring.
UNO held a commanding 34-2 advantage in shots over the Wildcats,
including 13-1 shots on goal. The Mavericks also had 11 corner
kicks compared to none for Wayne State. Sophomore goaltender
Jamie Anderson had 11 saves while allowing two goals for the
Wildcats.
Wayne State will be on the road for Northern Sun Conference
contests this weekend at Upper Iowa University Saturday at
11 a.m. and at Winona State Sunday at 1 p.m.
NORTHERN STATE HANDS WAYNE
STATE 1-0 LOSS
September 24-----Northern State handed Wayne
State a 1-0 setback in Northern Sun Conference women’s
soccer played Sunday afternoon in Wayne. The visiting Wolves
improved to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in the NSIC and Wayne State
falls to 7-5 overall and 2-2 in the NSIC.
The lone goal in the game was scored by Northern State’s
Alisha Martinez on a header in the 36th minute of the first
half. Both teams had nine shots while WSC held a 4-2 advantage
in corner kicks over Northern State. Wolves netminder Theresa
Alexander recorded five saves to post the shut out for Northern
State. Jamie Anderson recorded two saves in nearly 75 minutes
of playing time for WSC.
Wayne State will be on the road for a non-conference matchup
at #1 ranked Nebraska-Omaha on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00
p.m.
LATE GOAL BY THE UNIVERSITY OF
MARY HANDS WSC FIRST CONFERENCE LOSS
September 23------Kirsten Anderson’s
goal in the 78th minute lifted the University of Mary to a
2-1 Northern Sun Conference women’s soccer win over
Wayne State College Saturday afternoon at the WSC Soccer Complex.
Mary is now 3-5-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the NSIC following
the win while Wayne State slips to 7-4 overall and 2-1 in
the league.
The visiting Marauders opened the scoring early in the contest
at Jessica Janusz blasted a 20-yard shot over the arms of
WSC goaltender Jamie Anderson for a 1-0 lead at the 6:49 mark.
That would be the only goal of the first half despite Mary
holding a commanding 9-1 advantage in shots over the Wildcats.
The second half was played in a steady rain with both defenses
controlling the tempo. Wayne State tied the score at 1-1 at
the 60:09 mark when M.A. Liebentritt recorded her fifth goal
of the season off an assist from Elise Lane. However, Mary
scored with just under 12 minutes remaining when Kirsten Anderson
scored on a shot in front of the goal to give the University
of Mary the win.
Mary outshot Wayne State 12-4 and had a 5-0 edge in corner
kicks over the Wildcats.

Wednesday afternoon at the WSC Soccer Complex. The Wildcats
move to 7-3 on the season while dropping Dordt College to
3-4.
Dordt College, thanks to an aggressive attack, held an 8-4
advantage in shots over Wayne State in the first half as the
two teams battled to a scoreless tie until junior Gena Romano
(Lincoln Southwest) blasted a 30-yard shot that just trickled
into the net off the hands of Dordt goalkeeper Mallory Foster
at the 73:14 mark to give Wayne State a 1-0 lead. The Wildcats
added an insurance goal with just under four minutes to play
when Kate Goss, a sophomore from Millard West, scored on an
18-yard shot off an assist from M.A. Liebentritt to close
out the scoring.
Dordt College held a 13-12 edge in shots and a 3-1 advantage
in corner kicks over the Wildcats. Sophomore goaltender Jamie
Anderson made four saves while recording her second shutout
of the season for Wayne State.
Wayne State will host the University of Mary in a Northern
Sun Conference matchup at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the WSC Soccer
Complex.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
September 19-----Jenna Pendley of Wayne
State College has been selected by the Northern Sun Intercollegiate
Conference as the Offensive Player of the Week in women’s
soccer following her performances in two Wildcat wins over
the weekend. It’s the second straight week that a Wildcat
player received the player of the week honor as Katie Kelley
was awarded the NSIC Offensive Player of the Week honor last
week.
Pendley, a 5-5 sophomore forward from Bellevue West HS, scored
two goals for the Wildcats in road NSIC wins at Minnesota-Crookston
and Bemidji State. She scored the first goal for WSC in a
2-1 win at Minnesota-Crookston on Saturday, then scored the
team’s first goal in Sunday’s 3-1 win at Bemidji
State. The two wins for the Wildcats gave WSC sole possession
of first place in the Northern Sun Conference. For the season,
Pendley now has four goals and two assists for 10 points after
missing the first two games of the year with an injury.
Wayne State, 6-3 overall and 2-0 in the NSIC, will play three
home games this week. The Wildcats host Dordt College on Wednesday
at 4 p.m., then entertain the Univ. of Mary and Northern State
in Northern Sun Conference games on Saturday and Sunday at
1 p.m. both days.
WILDCATS MOVE INTO FIRST PLACE
IN THE NSIC WITH 3-1 WIN AT BEMIDJI STATE
September 17-----Wayne State took over sole
possession of first place in the Northern Sun Conference Sunday
afternoon with a 3-1 win at Bemidji State in women’s
college soccer. The Wildcats move to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in
the NSIC while Bemidji State slips to 4-4 overall and 1-1
in conference play. Thanks to Winona State’s 2-2 tie
at the Univ. of Mary, Wayne State is the lone unbeaten team
left in the NSIC standings.
The Wildcats opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when sophomore
Jenna Pendley (Bellevue West) scored her fourth goal of the
season on an unassisted shot from 20 yards out. WSC took a
2-0 lead eight minutes later when Elise Lane scored an unassisted
goal to close out scoring in the first half.
In the second half, Katie Kelley scored at the 64:27 mark
on an assist by Sarah James to put WSC ahead 3-0. Bemidji
State avoided the shutout in the 87th minute on a goal by
Kelly Hyvare to make the final score 3-1.
Wayne State held a 18-15 edge in shots and a 13-5 advantage
in shots on goal against the Beavers. Sophomore goaltender
Jamie Anderson improved to 5-3 on the season by making four
saves and allowing just one goal.
Wayne State will return home to start a three-game homestand
on Wednesday when the Wildcats host Dordt College on Wednesday
at 4:00 pm.

WIN AT MINNESOTA-CROOKSTON
September 16-----Wayne State needed second
half goals by Jenna Pendley and Amy Gustafson to rally for
a 2-1 Northern Sun Conference women’s soccer win at
Minnesota-Crookston Saturday afternoon in the league opener
for both teams. WSC is now 5-3 overall and 1-0 in the NSIC
while Minn.-Crookston slips to 1-5-1 overall and 0-1 in league
play.
The host Golden Eagles opened the scoring in the first half
on a goal by Elizabeth Kennedy in the 21st minute. Wayne State
tied the contest at 1-1 in the 49th minute on a free kick
from Jenna Pendley, her third goal of the season. Amy Gustafson
scored the eventual game-winning goal for the Wildcats at
the 67:22 mark off a corner kick from Christina King to give
Wayne State the 2-1 win.
The Wildcats held a 17-5 advantage in shots over the Golden
Eagles and had an 8-3 edge in corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper
Rachel Fuchs, in her first career start, notched her first
career win by making one save while allowing one goal.
Wayne State will close out their Northern Sun Conference road
trip with a game at Bemidji State on Sunday afternoon at 1:00
p.m.

STATE 5-1 SETBACK
September 13-----Kelsey Madson’s two
goals boosted the University of South Dakota to a 5-1 non-conference
women’s soccer victory over Wayne State College Wednesday
afternoon in Vermillion. The host Coyotes improved to 4-2-1
with the win while dropping the Wildcats to a 4-3 mark on
the season.
USD’s Tina Brummer opened the scoring in the 11th minute
to give the Coyotes a 1-0 lead. Brooke Youds scored on a 25-yard
blast over WSC goalkeeper Jamie Anderson in the 18th minute
to put USD in front 2-0. Madson’s first of two goals
in the 38th minute helped the Coyotes grab a commanding 3-0
lead at the intermission.
In the second half, Amy Duba scored a goal to give South Dakota
a 4-0 lead. Wayne State’s lone goal came off the foot
of M.A. Liebentritt in the 68th minute with an assist from
Marci Douglas to make the score 4-1. However, the Coyotes
scored again, just 1:30 later, on Madson’s second goal
of the game to cap the scoring and give South Dakota a 5-1
win over Wayne State.
The host Coyotes held a 20-13 advantage in shots over the
Wildcats, including 9-7 in shots on goal. USD held a commanding
11-2 edge in corner kicks while both teams had nine fouls.
Wayne State will open Northern Sun Conference play this weekend
on the road, visiting Minnesota-Crookston Saturday and Bemidji
State Sunday with both contests starting at 1:00 p.m.

to help Wayne State post a 3-0 win over Missouri Western last
Wednesday at the WSC Soccer Complex. The two goals were the
first in Kelley’s young career at Wayne State. WSC also
posted a 4-0 shutout over Doane College on Sunday as the Wildcats
improved to 4-2 on the season with the shutout wins last week.
Wayne State will travel to the University of South Dakota
on Wednesday for a non-conference match starting at 4 p.m.

at a rain-soaked WSC Soccer Complex. The Wildcats move to
4-2 with the win while Doane College slips to 0-5 on the season.
WSC opened the scoring early as Jenna Pendley scored off a
crossing pass from Liebentritt at the 3:57 mark to put the
Wildcats in front 1-0. The Wildcats pushed the lead to 2-0
in the 32nd minute when Megan Kenealy scored her second goal
of the season off a pass from Liebentritt. Less than four
minutes later, Liebentritt scored her third goal of the season
on a pass from Valerie Robinson to give WSC a comfortable
3-0 lead at the intermission. The lone goal scored in the
second half was a 35-yard blast off a free kick by senior
defender Sarah James at the 59:33 mark, giving Wayne State
the 4-0 win.
Wayne State held a commanding 20-2 advantage in shots over
Doane College. Goaltenders Jamie Anderson and Rachel Fuchs
combined on the shut out for WSC with Anderson making the
lone save for the Wildcats.
Wayne State will travel to the University of South Dakota

goals in the first 16 minutes lifted Wayne State to a 3-0
women’s soccer win over Missouri Western Wednesday afternoon
at the WSC Soccer Complex. The Wildcats moved to 3-2 with
the non-conference win while Missouri Western slipped to 1-2-1
on the season.
The host Wildcats struck early as Jenna Pendley scored her
first goal of the season off a crossing pass from Cassidy
Goc at the 3:36 mark to put WSC ahead 1-0. Katie Kelley’s
goal off a corner kick from Pendley at the 8:06 mark gave
the ‘Cats a 2-0 lead and the same two hooked up again
at the 15:03 mark to give Wayne State a commanding 3-0 lead.
Wildcat goalkeepers Jamie Anderson and Rachel Fuchs combined
to shut down the visiting Griffons as Wayne State posted the
3-0 win.
WSC recorded 13 shots to Missouri Western’s seven and
held a 10-3 shots on goal advantage in the contest. Anderson
finished with two saves while Fuchs made a solid save in the
85th minute off a shot from Missouri Western’s Meigan
Soo to preserve the shutout.
Wayne State returns to action on Sunday afternoon at 1:00
p.m. when the Wildcats host Doane College.
WILDCATS DEALT 4-0 LOSS BY
WASHBURN
September 3------Washburn blanked Wayne
State 4-0 in women’s soccer Sunday afternoon at the
Central Missouri State Holiday Inn Express Classic in Warrensburg,
Missouri. The Lady Blues used a 30-7 advantage in shots (15-2
in shots on goal) to move to 4-0 on the season while Wayne
State slipped to 2-2 overall.
Jolene Silovsky scored an assisted goal at the 4:56 mark to
give Washburn an early 1-0 lead. The Lady Blues scored again
in the 19th minute on a goal by Jessica Mainz to push the
lead to 2-0. Just before halftime, Ashley Taylor scored on
an assist from Lauren Schwindt to put the Lady Blues in front
3-0 at the intermission. Silovsky added another goal in the
72nd minute in the second half to make the final score 4-0.
Wayne State’s Jamie Anderson was credited with eight
saves while freshman Rachel Fuchs saw her first action of
the season in goal, playing the final 11 minutes and recording
three saves.
WSC will have two home matches this week, hosting Missouri
Western Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. and Doane College on Sunday
at 1:00 p.m.
CENTRAL MISSOURI STATE
DEFEATS WILDCATS 4-2
September 1-----The Wayne State College
women’s soccer team suffered their first loss of the
season Friday evening, falling to Central Missouri State 4-2
at the CMSU Holiday Inn Express Classic held in Warrensburg,
Missouri. CMSU improves to 3-0 on the season while the Wildcats
fall to 2-1.
The host Jennies used a pair of goals within a five-minute
stretch midway through the first half to grab a 2-0 lead as
Melanie Hall scored at the 24:26 mark followed by Landri Schmitt’s
second goal of the season at the 29:18 mark. Wayne State cut
the lead to 2-1 in the 36th minute when senior defender Sarah
James scored an unassisted goal to close out scoring in the
first half.
In the second half, Central Missouri State used a penalty
kick by Carrie Twellman to take a 3-1 lead in the 52nd minute.
The Jennies extended their lead to 4-1 on a goal from Randi
Fernsler at the 69:15 mark and Wayne State’s Melissa
Benson closed out the scoring with eight minutes remaining
on an unassisted goal to make the final tally 4-2 in favor
of Central Missouri State.
CMSU held a sizeable advantage in shots over the Wildcats,
23-4, and shots on goal 10-3. WSC sophomore goalkeeper Jamie
Anderson (2-1) suffered her first loss of the season despite
six saves.
Wayne State will face Washburn Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
to close out play at the CMSU Holiday Inn Express Classic
in Warrensburg.
WAYNE STATE DEFEATS NW MISSOURI
ST. 1-0 TO WIN WILDCAT CLASSIC
August 27-----The Wayne State College women’s
soccer team defeated Northwest Missouri State 1-0 to win the
Wildcat Classic on Sunday afternoon at the WSC Soccer Complex.
Although the Wildcats were out shot by their opponents 10-5
they still hung on for the win.
Senior forward M.A. Liebentritt scored the only goal of the
game from 20 yards out in the first half at the 17:10 mark
after a pass from junior forward Gena Romano. Northwest Missouri
State threatened in the second half with six shots, but freshman
goalkeeper Jamie Anderson made five saves to preserve the
win.
Wayne State improves to 2-0 on the season, while Northwest
Missouri State is now 1-1. The Wildcats are back in action
next weekend at the CMSU Classic in Warrensburg, Missouri.
WSC will play the host Central Missouri State on Friday evening
at 7:30 p.m. and will wrap up the classic on Sunday afternoon
against Washburn at 1:00 p.m.

5-1 IN OPENING GAME OF WILDCAT CLASSIC
August 25-----The Wayne State College women’s
soccer team opened the 2006 season Friday afternoon with a
5-1 win over York College in the Wildcat Classic played at
the WSC Soccer Complex. The Wildcats held a sizeable 20-3
advantage in shots over York as WSC moved to 1-0 on the season
while York slipped to 0-1.
Senior M.A. Liebentritt opened the scoring in the seventh
minute for Wayne State, scoring on a penalty kick to put the
‘Cats in front 1-0. The lead moved to 2-0 in the 27th
minute of the first half when Melissa Benson’s kick
deflected off York’s Lauren Sinnott for a team goal.
Amy Gustafson put WSC ahead 3-0 right before intermission
with a 20-yard blast past York goalkeeper Mandy Saar.
In the second half, York College cut the WSC lead to 3-1 at
the 64:13 mark when Kly Randell’s shot went off Wayne
State’s Cassidy Goc into the net for an own goal. WSC
added a pair of insurance scores late in the contest as Benson
scored at the 79:48 mark to give the Wildcats a 4-1 lead and
freshman Megan Kenealy closed out the scoring with a goal
off a pass from Valerie Robinson in the 82nd minute to make
the final score 5-1.
WSC sophomore goalkeeper Jamie Anderson recorded two saves
to earn the win for the Wildcats while York’s Many Saar
was credited with 13 saves in a losing effort.
York College will face Northwest Missouri State in Wayne on
Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the second game of the Wildcat Classic
while Wayne State takes on Northwest Missouri State on Sunday
at 2:00 p.m. to close out the tournament.

IN NSIC PRESEASON WOMEN'S SOCCER COACHES POLL
August 10-----The 2006 Wayne State College
women’s soccer team has been picked to finish in sixth
place according to the Northern Sun Conference preseason coaches
poll released today by the Northern Sun Conference office.
The Wildcats received 50 points in voting conducted by the
league’s women’s soccer coaches. Last season,
WSC finished in a tie for third place in the NSIC with Northern
State.
Defending NSIC champion Winona State received 90 points including
nine of 10 first place votes and was chosen as the team to
beat in the conference again in 2006. Northern State received
the other first place vote and a total of 78 points to come
in second. Bemidji State was picked to finish third with 75
points with Southwest Minnesota State in fourth at 56 points.
Newcomer the University of Mary was predicted to finish fifth
with 52 points. Following Wayne State was Upper Iowa (44),
Concordia U.-St. Paul (39), MSU Moorhead (36) and Minnesota-Crookston
(20).
Seniors Melissa Benson and Sarah James were voted by league
coaches as the Wildcats’ players to watch this season.
Benson, a midfielder from Maple Grove, Minnesota, scored nine
goals to earn NSCAA All-Central Region First Team honors in
2005. James (Kearney, Neb.) is the backbone to the Wildcat
defense and was on the NSIC All-Conference Team in 2004.
Wayne State College, 10-9-4 last season, will open the 2006
campaign at the Wildcat Classic in Wayne on Friday, August
25 against York College at WSC Soccer Complex at 4:00 p.m.
BROOKE BREDENBERG
NAMED HEAD WOMEN'S SOCCER COACH AT WSC
July 5-----Wayne State College director
of athletics Eric Schoh announced today that Brooke Bredenberg
(BRAY-den-burg) has been named head women’s soccer coach
at WSC.
Bredenberg is a former University of Nebraska soccer player
who coached Beatrice High School to a 7-7 record in girl’s
soccer last spring and a Class B-4 district runner up finish.
A native of Dayton, Minnesota, Bredenberg played three different
positions in her career at Nebraska from 2001-2004. She started
her career as a midfielder, then switched to goal keeper as
a junior and was the Huskers’ third-leading scorer during
her senior season, scoring six goals with two assists while
playing the forward position. Bredenberg was 11-6-1 as a goal
keeper with a 1.39 goals against average as a junior with
the Huskers.
“We are excited to have Brooke join our staff,”
commented Schoh. “Her success as a player and her ties
to Minnesota will help us with recruiting in the Northern
Sun Conference and I’m confident that her energy and
enthusiasm for women’s soccer will benefit our soccer
program at Wayne State.”
Bredenberg is a graduate of the University of Nebraska with
a bachelor’s degree in K-12 art education. She was a
two-time all-state soccer player at Champlin Park High School
in Minnesota. Bredenberg also placed second in the 300 meter
hurdles at the 2001 Minnesota Class AA State Track Meet and
was a three-time MVP in track and field along with a three-time
letter winner in basketball. She was also a member of the
National Honor Society.
“I am very excited to be a part of the Wayne State College
athletic family and begin this new chapter in my life,”
said Bredenberg. “I look forward to taking the next
step in getting Wildcat women’s soccer contending for
a conference championship and a berth in the NCAA regional
tournament.”
Bredenberg replaces Oliver Twelvetrees, who left WSC to take
a men’s soccer coaching position at Barton Community
College in Kansas last month. Wayne State finished the 2005
season in a tie for third place in the Northern Sun Conference
regular season with a 7-5-2 league mark, the first winning
record in league play since the 2002 season. The Wildcats
went on to a third place finish at the NSIC Tournament and
finished with a 10-9-4 overall record. Wayne State College

VALERIE ROBINSON TO JOIN WILDCAT SOCCER PROGRAM
May 26-----Wayne State College head women’s
soccer coach Oliver Twelvetrees has announced the signing
of Valerie Robinson from Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson High
School in Iowa to a national letter of intent to attend Wayne
State and play women’s soccer for the Wildcats in 2006.
Robinson, who will also play softball at Wayne State College,
is the eighth player of the 2006 recruiting class for WSC.
Other players in the 2006 recruiting class include Rachel
Fuchs of Omaha Skutt, Kelsey Gerch from Sioux City North,
Katie Kelley of Millard South, Megan Kenealy from Blair HS,
Christina King of Millard West, Michaela Lucas of Plattsmouth
HS and Kari Ann Munsch of Cloud County Community College.
Robinson is a two-year captain and a three year starter in
soccer at Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs.
She was a first team All-State, All-Conference and All-City
selection as a junior in 2005. Robinson is a multi-sport standout,
starting four seasons in softball, three years in basketball
and two years in cross country.
“Valerie has good speed and quickness that will help
us in the midfield this season,” said Coach Twelvetrees.
“She is a proven leader and competitor and I’m
excited about her future in Wildcat soccer.”

women’s soccer coach Oliver Twelvetrees has announced
the signing of Kelsey Gerch from Sioux City North High School
to a national letter of intent to attend Wayne State and play
women’s soccer for the Wildcats in 2006. Gerch is the
seventh player of the 2006 recruiting class for WSC.
Gerch is a three-year starter for Sioux City North, helping
the school reach the Class 4A State Tournament the past two
seasons. She was an All-Missouri River Conference selection
in 2005 as a junior to go with honorable mention all-state
honors after scoring five goals to go with five assists for
North High School. In her first three years at Sioux City
North, Gerch has 11 goals and nine assists.
“Kelsey is a talented outside midfielder who is very
athletic and has excellent vision,” said Coach Twelvetrees.
“I believe she will make a big impact for Wildcat soccer.
I am also very happy to sign a player from the Sioux City
area. It is an important recruiting area for Wayne State College
and has a wealth of soccer talent.”

Christina King, 5-6 defender, Millard West HS---Earned
second team All-Metro honors in 2005 and a member of the Arsenal
Strikers along with a three-year letterwinner. “Christina
is an extremely solid defender who can play anywhere on the
backline,” remarked Twelvetrees. “She has played
at the highest level in club and high school and will become
a vital part of our program.”
Michaela Lucas, 5-6 midfielder, Plattsmouth HS---Selected
all-state honorable mention in 2005 and named Gatorade Will
to Win Athlete in 2004. “We feel Michaela’s athleticism
will allow us to play her in a number of positions on the
field,” stated Coach Twelvetrees. “Michaela is
a great athlete with good technical ability.”
Kari Ann Munsch, 5-7 midfielder, Cloud County Community College
(Hays HS, Kansas)---Will have two seasons of eligibility
with the Wildcats after playing two seasons at Cloud County
Community College in Kansas. Munsch was a three-time All-Conference
performer in high school at Hays, Kansas and earned second
team all-state honors as a senior. “Kari has great vision
and soccer awareness,” noted Twelvetrees. “We
will be counting on her to help add experience and depth to
our squad.”
Wayne State College is an NCAA Division II school located
in Wayne, Nebraska and competes in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate
Conference.
MELISSA BENSON NAMED
FIRST TEAM ALL-CENTRAL REGION
December 1-----Melissa Benson of Wayne State
College has been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association
of America (NSCAA) All-Central Region First Team. It is believed
to be the first time that a WSC women’s soccer player
has received First Team All-Region honors.
Benson, a 5-9 junior midfielder from Maple Grove, Minnesota,
was a repeat selection to the All-NSIC First Team for the
Wildcats this season. She finished the season tied for the
team lead in goals with nine and was second in scoring with
19 points. In her career, Benson ranks fifth in career goals
with 21. She is also a two-time NSIC All-Academic selection.
Wayne State College finished in a tie for third place in the
NSIC this season with a 7-5-2 league mark, the first winning
record in league play since the 2002 season. The Wildcats
went on to a third place finish in the NSIC Tournament, finishing
the season with a 10-9-4 overall record.
