Seven WSC baseball players were named to the 2008 NSIC All-Conference Baseball Team announced Thursday afternoon. Nick Schumacher was named the NSIC Pitcher of the Year, Marc Manganaro earned the NSIC Co-Player of the Year while Nick Bidroski was selected the NSIC Co-Freshmen of the Year.
Marc Manganaro went 3 for 4 with a two-run homer, two runs scored and two RBI's to lead #15 Wayne State in a 6-3 win over Winona State Thursday in the first round of the NSIC Baseball Tournament. The 39-10 Wildcats now face SW Minnesota State Friday at 1 p.m.
Wayne State clinched a fifth straight NSIC regular season baseball title with a 3-0, 13-12 8 inning sweep over Bemidji State Sunday in Wayne. Senior Nick Schumacher set a new single season record with his 12th win in the first game. WSC, 38-10 overall and 24-6 in the NSIC, will host the NSIC Tournament Thursday-Sunday.
Mary eliminated Wayne State 3-0 in the NSIC Softball Tournament Sunday morning in Marshall, Minnesota. WSC ends the season with a 30-23 record, the most wins by a WSC softball team since 1990.
Bemidji State upset #16 Wayne State 7-5 in the second game of a NSIC baseball doubleheader Saturday to split the doubleheader with the Wildcats after WSC won the first game 7-2. The 36-10 Wildcats, 22-6 in the NSIC, need to sweep the Beavers on Sunday to win the NSIC regular season title.
