2007 Outdoor: Scored points in two events at NSIC Outdoor Championships in Moorhead, Minnesota... placing sixth in the 1,500 meter run (5:02.31) and running leg on fourth place 4 x 800 meter relay team that finished in a time of 9:36.53...ran season-best time of 2:24.57 in the 800 meter run to place sixth at Sioux City Relays on 4-21-07.

2007 Indoor: Placed eighth in the one mile run with season-best time of 5:38.16 at the NSIC Indoor Championships in Bemidji, Minnesota and was 13th in the 1,000 meter run in a clocking of 3:28.55...ran season-best time of 3:23.55 in 1,000 meter run at Minnesota State Open on 2-3-07.

2006 Outdoor: Ran season best 2:30.68 in to 800 meter run to place sixth at the NSIC Championships in Wayne on 5-13-06.....also ran leg on fourth place 4 x 800 meter relay team at NSIC meet.....ran 5:23.64 in the 1,500-meter run at the Hornet Invite in Sacramento on 3-25-06.

2006 Indoor: Ran a leg on the conference champion distance medley relay team that set a school record with a time of 12:49.06. Finished second in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:31.59 at the NSIC Indoor Track Championships which was good for All-NSIC honors. Had season-best 3:20.88 time in the 1000 meter run at the Iowa State Open on 1-28-06.

2005 Outdoor: Season was cut short due to illness and injury. Ran season-best 5:28.27 in the 1,500-meter run at the WSC Classic on 4-9-05. Competed in only two outdoor meets.

2005 Indoor: Scored points in three events at the NSIC Indoor Championships. Earned NSIC honorable mention honors by running leg on second place 1600 meter relay team (4:06.45). Also ran leg on fifth place distance medley relay team (13:20.12) and was sixth in the 1,000-meter run (3:18.80). Just missed scoring in the one mile run, taking seventh at 5:45.32. Ran season-best 5:33.92 in the one mile run at the WSC Wildcat Open on 2-12-05.

2004 Outdoor: Scored points in two relay events at the NSIC Outdoor Championships, running legs on the fifth place 1600 meter relay (4:03.99) and the sixth place 3200 meter relay (11:07.12). Just missed finals in the 800 meter run, taking 9th at 2:27.87. Helped set new school record in the 3200 meter relay with time of 9:31.71 at the Drake Relays on 4-23-04. Other members of relay team were Audrey Emanuel, Jodi Rhodig and Erin Oswald.

2004 Indoor: Finished fourth as a freshman in the 800 meter run at the NSIC Indoor Championships in Wayne with time of 2:25.94. Earned NSIC honorable mention honors with second place finish in the 1600 meter relay, setting a new indoor school record with time of 4:06.18. Also set a new school record in the 3200 meter relay team with Angie Kraus, Jodi Rhodig and Erin Oswald, running a time of 9:45.08 on 1-31-04 at the Dordt Invite.

High School: Graduate of Pender High School, starring in cross country, basketball and track and field.....was four year starter in basketball and track, qualified for state cross country in the three years it was a sport at Pender....was a three-time All-East Husker Conference basketball player......four year state track medalist and three year state cross country medal winner.

Personal: Daughter of Jeff and Carol Smith.....Born on Jan. 27, 1985......majoring in elementary education with a coaching endorsement.

Wayne State has earned the #3 seed for the NCAA Div. II Central Regional Baseball Tournament hosted by Emporia State in Kansas. The 40-11 Wildcats meet #4 seed Central Missouri (41-15) in Thursday's first round with game times to be announced Monday afternoon.


Concordia-St. Paul topped #15 Wayne State 10-6 Sunday afternoon in the NSIC Baseball Tournament championship game. The 40-11 Wildcats await word from the NCAA on a at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament. Official pairings are to be released Sunday evening by the NCAA.


Nate Preston won three events to lead the WSC men to a third straight NSIC outdoor track and field championship Saturday in Wayne. The Wildcats scored 164 points to nip second place Mary (156.5) for the team title. Brett Suckstorf won two events (hammer throw and discus) for WSC.


The WSC women's track and field team finished in third place with 106 points at the NSIC Championships in Wayne. Katie Wilson won two events (hammer throw and discus) and took second in the shot put to lead the Wildcats.


The NSIC Office announced Saturday that the NSIC Baseball Tournament has been shortened to a single-elimination tournament with Wayne State and Concordia-St. Paul (the last two undefeated teams in the tournament) playing Sunday at 1 p.m. in Wayne and the winner earning the NSIC Tournament Title and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.


Nick Schumacher struck out a career-high 14 batters in a complete game win to lead #15 Wayne State to a 9-1 victory over Southwest Minnesota State at the NSIC Baseball Tournament in Wayne. The 40-10 Wildcats will play in the winner's bracket final Saturday at 10 a.m. against either Bemidji State or Concordia-St. Paul.


Seven WSC baseball players were named to the 2008 NSIC All-Conference Baseball Team announced Thursday afternoon. Nick Schumacher was named the NSIC Pitcher of the Year, Marc Manganaro earned the NSIC Co-Player of the Year while Nick Bidroski was selected the NSIC Co-Freshmen of the Year.
