Krista Unger enters her first season as the head softball coach at Wayne State College. Unger comes to Wayne State after serving two seasons as an assistant coach at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota. She helped SCSU to records of 34-25 in 2005 and 33-24 in 2006 as the Huskies finished second and third respectively in the North Central Conference during Unger's stay. A native of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Unger was a standout player at the University of Nebraska-Omaha from 1999-2003. She helped the Mavericks to the NCAA Division II national championship in 2001 as a sophomore and finished her career as the all-time winningest pitcher in Maverick softball history with 106 wins and 530 career strikeouts. In the 2001 national championship game, Unger tossed a two-hit shutout with five strikeouts in a 4-0 win over Lewis University. She also ranks second in career shutouts with 43. Unger earned numerous honors as a player at UNO, earning First Team All-NCC honors three times while also collecting three All-NCC Academic Team awards. She was named to the NFCA All-Region First Team in 2002 and was a Second Team All-Region selection in 2001. Unger was also selected the North Central Conference Freshman of the Year in 2000.
Unger also has coaching experience at the high school level, serving as the JV-Varsity pitching coach at Omaha Gross High School in the fall of 2003 and at state-qualifying Omaha Westside High School in 2004. Unger earned her bachelor's degree of science in physical education K-12 with an endorsement in coaching from the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 2004 and received her master's degree in sport management in May, 2006 from St. Cloud State University in Minnesota.

Concordia-St. Paul topped #15 Wayne State 10-6 Sunday afternoon in the NSIC Baseball Tournament championship game. The 40-11 Wildcats await word from the NCAA on a at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament. Official pairings are to be released Sunday evening by the NCAA.
Nate Preston won three events to lead the WSC men to a third straight NSIC outdoor track and field championship Saturday in Wayne. The Wildcats scored 164 points to nip second place Mary (156.5) for the team title. Brett Suckstorf won two events (hammer throw and discus) for WSC.
The WSC women's track and field team finished in third place with 106 points at the NSIC Championships in Wayne. Katie Wilson won two events (hammer throw and discus) and took second in the shot put to lead the Wildcats.
The NSIC Office announced Saturday that the NSIC Baseball Tournament has been shortened to a single-elimination tournament with Wayne State and Concordia-St. Paul (the last two undefeated teams in the tournament) playing Sunday at 1 p.m. in Wayne and the winner earning the NSIC Tournament Title and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Nick Schumacher struck out a career-high 14 batters in a complete game win to lead #15 Wayne State to a 9-1 victory over Southwest Minnesota State at the NSIC Baseball Tournament in Wayne. The 40-10 Wildcats will play in the winner's bracket final Saturday at 10 a.m. against either Bemidji State or Concordia-St. Paul.
Seven WSC baseball players were named to the 2008 NSIC All-Conference Baseball Team announced Thursday afternoon. Nick Schumacher was named the NSIC Pitcher of the Year, Marc Manganaro earned the NSIC Co-Player of the Year while Nick Bidroski was selected the NSIC Co-Freshmen of the Year.
