Brandon Wiebelhaus is in his first season as student assistant coach for the Wayne State College softball team. He will assist the Wildcat coaching staff in all aspects of the game. Wiebelhaus has coached softball and baseball for the past two years. He coached Little League softball for two years, helping his team reach the district championship. He also was an assistant coach for the Laurel-Concord American Legion baseball program. Wiebelhaus was also a standout high school baseball player in Phoenix, Arizona, earning numerous individual and team awards. He was a three-time All-Region performer and also a member on the All-State and Academic All-Region Teams. He helped his team win three state championships and one runner-up finish. He also holds the school record for walks. After high school, he played college baseball for Glendale Community College in Glendale, Arizona, and also for North Dakota State University. Wiebelhaus is currently working on his bachelor's degree of science in criminal justice and also a coaching endorsement. He resides in Wayne.

Concordia-St. Paul topped #15 Wayne State 10-6 Sunday afternoon in the NSIC Baseball Tournament championship game. The 40-11 Wildcats await word from the NCAA on a at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament. Official pairings are to be released Sunday evening by the NCAA.
Nate Preston won three events to lead the WSC men to a third straight NSIC outdoor track and field championship Saturday in Wayne. The Wildcats scored 164 points to nip second place Mary (156.5) for the team title. Brett Suckstorf won two events (hammer throw and discus) for WSC.
The WSC women's track and field team finished in third place with 106 points at the NSIC Championships in Wayne. Katie Wilson won two events (hammer throw and discus) and took second in the shot put to lead the Wildcats.
The NSIC Office announced Saturday that the NSIC Baseball Tournament has been shortened to a single-elimination tournament with Wayne State and Concordia-St. Paul (the last two undefeated teams in the tournament) playing Sunday at 1 p.m. in Wayne and the winner earning the NSIC Tournament Title and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Nick Schumacher struck out a career-high 14 batters in a complete game win to lead #15 Wayne State to a 9-1 victory over Southwest Minnesota State at the NSIC Baseball Tournament in Wayne. The 40-10 Wildcats will play in the winner's bracket final Saturday at 10 a.m. against either Bemidji State or Concordia-St. Paul.
Seven WSC baseball players were named to the 2008 NSIC All-Conference Baseball Team announced Thursday afternoon. Nick Schumacher was named the NSIC Pitcher of the Year, Marc Manganaro earned the NSIC Co-Player of the Year while Nick Bidroski was selected the NSIC Co-Freshmen of the Year.
