WSC was picked to finish third in the South Division and seventh overall in the 2008 NSIC Preseason Football Coaches Poll released on Monday, August 4th during NSIC Media Day in Mankato, Minnesota. Wildcat junior quarterback Silas Fluellen was selected by coaches as the South Division Preseason Offensive Player of the Year.

The Wayne State at Nebraska-Kearney season opening football game will kickoff at noon on Saturday, August 30th at Ron and Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field in Kearney. Some earlier website schedules had the game listed for a 6:00 p.m. start.

Former WSC pitcher Nick Schumacher was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 28th round Friday afternoon in the 2008 MLB First-Year Player Draft. The Nebraska City native was the 855th overall pick and it marks the second straight year a WSC pitcher was taken in the MLB Draft.
