Sam Singleton
Sam Singleton was the first Wayne State athlete to gain 1,000 yards rushing in his career, which spanned from 1967-1971. He gained 1,111 yards in 1971, which ranks as the fifth-most yards in a single season in WSC school history. Singleton still holds the school record for most rushing attempts in a season and third on the career rushing list with 3,003 yards. He helped the Wildcats earn a berth in the Mineral Water Bowl in 1970, Wayne State's only post-season appearance to date.
Singleton earned four letters at Wayne State and received All-Nebraska Conference and All-District honors along with being selected to the Omaha World Herald State College All Star Team. He was also an honorable mention All-American selection.
Singleton was inducted into the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame on September 11, 2004 and is currently a high school footbal and track coach at Oakland Mills High School in Columbia, Maryland.
Singleton was inducted into the WSC Athletics Hall of Fame in the fall of 1985.

Concordia-St. Paul topped #15 Wayne State 10-6 Sunday afternoon in the NSIC Baseball Tournament championship game. The 40-11 Wildcats await word from the NCAA on a at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament. Official pairings are to be released Sunday evening by the NCAA.
Nate Preston won three events to lead the WSC men to a third straight NSIC outdoor track and field championship Saturday in Wayne. The Wildcats scored 164 points to nip second place Mary (156.5) for the team title. Brett Suckstorf won two events (hammer throw and discus) for WSC.
The WSC women's track and field team finished in third place with 106 points at the NSIC Championships in Wayne. Katie Wilson won two events (hammer throw and discus) and took second in the shot put to lead the Wildcats.
The NSIC Office announced Saturday that the NSIC Baseball Tournament has been shortened to a single-elimination tournament with Wayne State and Concordia-St. Paul (the last two undefeated teams in the tournament) playing Sunday at 1 p.m. in Wayne and the winner earning the NSIC Tournament Title and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Nick Schumacher struck out a career-high 14 batters in a complete game win to lead #15 Wayne State to a 9-1 victory over Southwest Minnesota State at the NSIC Baseball Tournament in Wayne. The 40-10 Wildcats will play in the winner's bracket final Saturday at 10 a.m. against either Bemidji State or Concordia-St. Paul.
Seven WSC baseball players were named to the 2008 NSIC All-Conference Baseball Team announced Thursday afternoon. Nick Schumacher was named the NSIC Pitcher of the Year, Marc Manganaro earned the NSIC Co-Player of the Year while Nick Bidroski was selected the NSIC Co-Freshmen of the Year.
