Linda
Schnitzler Walker enjoyed outstanding careers with the Wayne
State College women's basketball and track and field teams
from 1985-1989. The Battle Creek native, a 1989 graduate,
is one of the best women's basketball players to wear a
Wildcat uniform. She set and still holds 11 school records,
including points in a game (42), season (733) and career
(2,224). Her 2,224 career points were a Nebraska State College
scoring record for a number of years.
Walker
holds season and career records for scoring average, field
goal attempts and free throws made. In addition, she owns
the record for career field goals made and steals in a season.
In track and field, Walker established three
school records during her distinguished career. Her mark
of 19 feet, 2 1/2 inches in the outdoor long jump still
stands as the school record. She ranks second all-time in
the indoor long jump (18-2) and the outdoor triple jump
(37-2 1/2). Schnitzler Walker earned All-American honors
in two events at the 1989 NAIA Outdoor National Championships,
placing sixth in the long jump and she was a member of the
800-meter relay team that placed sixth.
Schnitzler Walker, who married former WSC
football player Drew Walker, has taught and coached in the
Wahoo Public School system for the past 15 years. The Walkers
are the parents of four children: Jake, Erin, Ryan and Bret.
Schnitzler
Walker was the lone inductee into the WSC Athletics Hall
of Fame in the fall of 2000.
