Jim Whitney
Jim Whitney was a three-sport standout for the Wildcats from 1953-57. He was a four-year letterwinner in both basketball and football and a two-year letterwinner in track and field. Whitney left his mark on the basketball court at WSC, where he was the career record holder in points with 1,095 when he graduated in 1957. Whitney was named Freshman of the Year for the Nebraska College Conference. He was captain of the 1956-57 team that made the school's first appearance at the NAIA National Tournament in Kansas City. He was selected First Team All-Nebraska College Conference that same season.
Whitney earned honorable mention All-Conference accolades on the gridiron during his senior season. He was a part of three winning seasons on the football team as well under Head Coach Barney Lewellyn.
Whitney was a 1953 graduate of Hartington High School and a 1957 graduate of WSC, majoring in physical education. After graduation, he coached for six years at St. Edmund High School in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He also worked for 28 years for the University of Colorado in Boulder as the Assistant Director of Student Housing and Maintenance Department Director and is now retired.
Whitney was inducted into the WSC Athletics Hall of Fame October 5, 2002.

Concordia-St. Paul topped #15 Wayne State 10-6 Sunday afternoon in the NSIC Baseball Tournament championship game. The 40-11 Wildcats await word from the NCAA on a at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament. Official pairings are to be released Sunday evening by the NCAA.
Nate Preston won three events to lead the WSC men to a third straight NSIC outdoor track and field championship Saturday in Wayne. The Wildcats scored 164 points to nip second place Mary (156.5) for the team title. Brett Suckstorf won two events (hammer throw and discus) for WSC.
The WSC women's track and field team finished in third place with 106 points at the NSIC Championships in Wayne. Katie Wilson won two events (hammer throw and discus) and took second in the shot put to lead the Wildcats.
The NSIC Office announced Saturday that the NSIC Baseball Tournament has been shortened to a single-elimination tournament with Wayne State and Concordia-St. Paul (the last two undefeated teams in the tournament) playing Sunday at 1 p.m. in Wayne and the winner earning the NSIC Tournament Title and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Nick Schumacher struck out a career-high 14 batters in a complete game win to lead #15 Wayne State to a 9-1 victory over Southwest Minnesota State at the NSIC Baseball Tournament in Wayne. The 40-10 Wildcats will play in the winner's bracket final Saturday at 10 a.m. against either Bemidji State or Concordia-St. Paul.
Seven WSC baseball players were named to the 2008 NSIC All-Conference Baseball Team announced Thursday afternoon. Nick Schumacher was named the NSIC Pitcher of the Year, Marc Manganaro earned the NSIC Co-Player of the Year while Nick Bidroski was selected the NSIC Co-Freshmen of the Year.
