Greg McDermott
Greg McDermott re-energized the Wayne State College men's basketball program in his six years as head coach, recording a 116-53 record from 1994-2000. McDermott inherited a program that had five straight losing seasons and he went 14-13 in his first season. McDermott put together four straight 20-win seasons and had two of his teams qualify for the NCAA Post-Season Tournament. The Wildcats were 21-7, 20-7, 23-5 and 26-6 in McDermott's final four seasons. His 26-6 team in 1999-2000 advanced to the NCAA Division II North Central Regional Championship game before falling to eventual national champion Metro State. The 1998-99 team earned the top seed and hosted the NCAA Division II North Central Regional Tournament at Rice Auditorium. McDermott's 1999-2000 team was NSIC regular season co-champion with Winona State and won the NSIC Post-Season Tournament to earn the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. McDermott was selected the 2000 NSIC Coach of the Year and earned the 1999 North Central District Coach of the Year.
McDermott coached at his alma mater, Northern Iowa, for five seasons (2001-2006) and compiled a 90-63 mark with three NCAA Tournament appearances. He is entering his first season as head coach at Iowa State University.
McDermott was inducted into the WSC Athletics Hall of Fame October 7, 2006.
