Ed Blackburn
Ed Blackburn, a native of Malvern, Iowa, was a two-sport standout at Wayne State College, starring in football and track and field from 1978-1982. Blackburn was a Second Team NAIA All-American tight end in 1981 along with receiving First Team NAIA All-District 11 and All-Central States Intercollegiate Conference honors. The 6-5, 220 pound receiver had 25 catches for 359 yards and six touchdowns in his senior season. He also was named to several all state college teams for his play on the football field.
In track and field, Blackburn was a two-time All-American in the 110-meter high hurdles. Blackburn placed fifth at the 1980 NAIA National Meet with a time of 14.2 seconds and placed sixth at the 1981 NAIA National Meet with with a time of 14.7 seconds. He still holds the school record in the 110-meter high hurdles at 14.0 seconds in 1982.
Blackburn was inducted into the WSC Athletics Hall of Fame October 17, 2001.

Concordia-St. Paul topped #15 Wayne State 10-6 Sunday afternoon in the NSIC Baseball Tournament championship game. The 40-11 Wildcats await word from the NCAA on a at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament. Official pairings are to be released Sunday evening by the NCAA.
Nate Preston won three events to lead the WSC men to a third straight NSIC outdoor track and field championship Saturday in Wayne. The Wildcats scored 164 points to nip second place Mary (156.5) for the team title. Brett Suckstorf won two events (hammer throw and discus) for WSC.
The WSC women's track and field team finished in third place with 106 points at the NSIC Championships in Wayne. Katie Wilson won two events (hammer throw and discus) and took second in the shot put to lead the Wildcats.
The NSIC Office announced Saturday that the NSIC Baseball Tournament has been shortened to a single-elimination tournament with Wayne State and Concordia-St. Paul (the last two undefeated teams in the tournament) playing Sunday at 1 p.m. in Wayne and the winner earning the NSIC Tournament Title and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Nick Schumacher struck out a career-high 14 batters in a complete game win to lead #15 Wayne State to a 9-1 victory over Southwest Minnesota State at the NSIC Baseball Tournament in Wayne. The 40-10 Wildcats will play in the winner's bracket final Saturday at 10 a.m. against either Bemidji State or Concordia-St. Paul.
Seven WSC baseball players were named to the 2008 NSIC All-Conference Baseball Team announced Thursday afternoon. Nick Schumacher was named the NSIC Pitcher of the Year, Marc Manganaro earned the NSIC Co-Player of the Year while Nick Bidroski was selected the NSIC Co-Freshmen of the Year.
