(Asay) Salerno
Diana
(Asay) Salerno lettered for the Wildcats in both volleyball
(1983-86) and track (1985-88). In volleyball, Asay Salerno
was a four-year starter for Head Coach Marilyn Strate at
outside hitter. She was named honorable mention All-Conference
in 1986 after combining for 227 kills, 64 blocks, 160 digs
and 22 service aces. For her career, she played in 382 games,
had 719 kills, 367 blocks, 553 digs and 102 service aces.
Asay
Salerno was a four-year letterwinner in track under longtime
coach LeRoy Simpson. She was an NAIA All-American in the
shot put in 1986, placing fifth with a throw of 43 feet,
9 1/4 inches. Asay Salerno's name still appears on the track
record board at WSC with a school record toss of 44 feet,
4 inches in 1986. She also holds the indoor school mark
in the shot put at 45-3, set in 1986. Asay Salerno also
earned Academic All-American honors in 1988.
Asay
Salerno graduated from Columbus Lakeview in 1983 and lives
with her husband, Pat, and two children Madeline and Lauren
in Omaha. Asay Salerno graduated from WSC in 1988, majoring
in physical education. At the time of her induction into
the WSC Athletics Hall of Fame on October 5, 2002, Asay
Salerno was the Director of Program Management Office at
First Data Resources in Omaha. She also was on the board
of directors for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
