Warren
"Bud" Best attended Wayne State from 1939-43, graduating
with a degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation.
Warren was the second athlete in the history of Wayne State
College Athletics to achieve the distinction of having won
a varsity letter in three sports for all four years he attended.
As
a football player, he was awarded All-Conference distinction
three straight years, 1940, 1941 and 1942. Warren played
basketball during those same years and was named an All-Conference
guard in 1942 and 1943. In track, Warren co-held the 100
yard dash record of 9.9 seconds, which he set in 1943.
After
graduation, Warren taught in the Albion School District
from 1946-52, where he coached football, basketball, and
track, as well as teaching. From Albion he moved to the
Norfolk area to teach and coach football and track for five
years. Warren was an associate professor of Health and Physical
Education at the University of Northern Colorado from 1957-1967.
While there he was the head swimming coach, backfield coach
in football, and the assistant baseball coach. At the time
of his induction, Warren was the Director of Career and
Placement and a teach of College Student Personnel Administration
at the University of Northern Colorado.
Best
was inducted into the WSC Athletics Hall of Fame October
11, 1980.
