Charles Hafley is a new member to the Wildcat coaching staff as a graduate assistant coach at Wayne State College, helping coach the defensive backs. Hafley comes to WSC after serving two seasons (2005 and 2006) as head coach at Fort Lauderdale High School in Florida. He also served as defensive coordinator at Coral Gables HS in 2004 and was the offensive coordinator at Pompano Beach High School in Florida in the 2003 season.

Hafley, a graduate of Ely High School in Pompano Beach, Florida, was a standout safety at Clemson University from 1998-2001, earning Second Team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors as a senior. He was the third leading tackler in his junior and senior seasons with the Tigers and in 2000 became just the third Clemson defensive back to record a 100 tackle season (106). He followed that up in his senior season with 128 tackles and a team-high four interceptions. Had career-high 14 tackles for Clemson in 2000 Gator Bowl against Virginia Tech. Following his career at Clemson, Hafley spent the 2002 season on the practice squad of the New York Giants and played in the Arena Football League in 2003 with the Indiana Firebirds and San Jose Sabercats before starting his coaching career.

Hafley earned a sociology degree from Clemson University in August , 2001 and is working toward a masters degree at Wayne State College.

Wayne State has earned the #3 seed for the NCAA Div. II Central Regional Baseball Tournament hosted by Emporia State in Kansas. The 40-11 Wildcats meet #4 seed Central Missouri (41-15) in Thursday's first round with game times to be announced Monday afternoon.


Concordia-St. Paul topped #15 Wayne State 10-6 Sunday afternoon in the NSIC Baseball Tournament championship game. The 40-11 Wildcats await word from the NCAA on a at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament. Official pairings are to be released Sunday evening by the NCAA.


Nate Preston won three events to lead the WSC men to a third straight NSIC outdoor track and field championship Saturday in Wayne. The Wildcats scored 164 points to nip second place Mary (156.5) for the team title. Brett Suckstorf won two events (hammer throw and discus) for WSC.


The WSC women's track and field team finished in third place with 106 points at the NSIC Championships in Wayne. Katie Wilson won two events (hammer throw and discus) and took second in the shot put to lead the Wildcats.


The NSIC Office announced Saturday that the NSIC Baseball Tournament has been shortened to a single-elimination tournament with Wayne State and Concordia-St. Paul (the last two undefeated teams in the tournament) playing Sunday at 1 p.m. in Wayne and the winner earning the NSIC Tournament Title and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.


Nick Schumacher struck out a career-high 14 batters in a complete game win to lead #15 Wayne State to a 9-1 victory over Southwest Minnesota State at the NSIC Baseball Tournament in Wayne. The 40-10 Wildcats will play in the winner's bracket final Saturday at 10 a.m. against either Bemidji State or Concordia-St. Paul.


Seven WSC baseball players were named to the 2008 NSIC All-Conference Baseball Team announced Thursday afternoon. Nick Schumacher was named the NSIC Pitcher of the Year, Marc Manganaro earned the NSIC Co-Player of the Year while Nick Bidroski was selected the NSIC Co-Freshmen of the Year.
