2006: Started all 11 games as the 'Cats strong safety. . . Led the team with four interceptions (T-2nd in NSIC) and also second on the team with an average of 8.6 tackles per game (6th in NSIC). . . Finished with 95 total tackles including 40 solo. . . Returned one fumble 76 yards for a touchdown and returned an interecption 46 yards against Nebraska-Kearney on 9-9-06 to earn NCAA Division II Nebraska Defensive Player of the Week honors on 9-11-06. . . Also won the honor again on 10-2-06 when he had 13 tackles against Minnesota-Crookston on 9-30-06. . . Earned NSIC Defensive Player of the Week honors on 10-9-06 after having a season-high 15 tackles including two tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks, one interception and two pass breakups on 10-7-06. . . Never missed a collegiate football game which includes participation in 44 for his career. . . Earned All-Conference honorable mention honors and was selected to the NSIC Fall All-Academic Team for the third straight season.
Named to the Daktronics, Inc. Division II All-Northwest Region Football Second Team. Selected to the Omaha World Herald All-Nebraska Division II Football Team.

2005: Finished fifth on the team in tackles with 76 (35 solo, 41 assisted). Had seven tackles, two interceptions and a 75-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown vs. Southwest Minnesota State on 10-8-05 to earn NSIC and Nebraska NCAA Division II Defensive Player of the Week honors along with national defensive POW honors from Don Hansen's Football Gazette. Also had 13-yard interception return for a score at Minnesota-Crookston on 9-24-05. Finished tied for fifth in the NSIC in passes defended with 10. Selected to the NSIC Fall All-Academic Team for second time.

2004: Was third on the team in tackles from rover/strong safety position with 72 tackles. Led the team in interceptions with three and had five pass breakups to go with two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. Named Nebraska Division II Special Teams Player of the Week after returning blocked extra point for two point conversion at Northern State on 10-9-04. Named to the 2004 NSIC Fall All-Academic Team.

2003: Appeared in all 11 games, recording 37 tackles (17 solo, 20 assisted). Had two pass breakups and one fumble recovery.

High School:
attended Dowling High School where he was three-sport athlete. Lettered in football, baseball, and soccer. Was an all-conference performer and named special teams player of the year both his junior and senior year. Schools combined record was 41-1 including two state championships.

Personal: son of Rick and Camielle Peterson and Judy Peterson. born January 8, 1984.....majoring in pre-engineering.

Wayne State has earned the #3 seed for the NCAA Div. II Central Regional Baseball Tournament hosted by Emporia State in Kansas. The 40-11 Wildcats meet #4 seed Central Missouri (41-15) in Thursday's first round with game times to be announced Monday afternoon.


Concordia-St. Paul topped #15 Wayne State 10-6 Sunday afternoon in the NSIC Baseball Tournament championship game. The 40-11 Wildcats await word from the NCAA on a at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament. Official pairings are to be released Sunday evening by the NCAA.


Nate Preston won three events to lead the WSC men to a third straight NSIC outdoor track and field championship Saturday in Wayne. The Wildcats scored 164 points to nip second place Mary (156.5) for the team title. Brett Suckstorf won two events (hammer throw and discus) for WSC.


The WSC women's track and field team finished in third place with 106 points at the NSIC Championships in Wayne. Katie Wilson won two events (hammer throw and discus) and took second in the shot put to lead the Wildcats.


The NSIC Office announced Saturday that the NSIC Baseball Tournament has been shortened to a single-elimination tournament with Wayne State and Concordia-St. Paul (the last two undefeated teams in the tournament) playing Sunday at 1 p.m. in Wayne and the winner earning the NSIC Tournament Title and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.


Nick Schumacher struck out a career-high 14 batters in a complete game win to lead #15 Wayne State to a 9-1 victory over Southwest Minnesota State at the NSIC Baseball Tournament in Wayne. The 40-10 Wildcats will play in the winner's bracket final Saturday at 10 a.m. against either Bemidji State or Concordia-St. Paul.


Seven WSC baseball players were named to the 2008 NSIC All-Conference Baseball Team announced Thursday afternoon. Nick Schumacher was named the NSIC Pitcher of the Year, Marc Manganaro earned the NSIC Co-Player of the Year while Nick Bidroski was selected the NSIC Co-Freshmen of the Year.
