Tall, big right-hander expected to see time out of the bullpen this spring for the Wildcats.

2007: Named Second Team All-NSIC Pitcher after posting third-lowest ERA on Wildcat pitching staff, going 6-3 in 10 starts with 2.59 ERA....allowed only 40 hits in 48 2/3 innings, striking out 44 batters....struck out seven batters in starts vs. St. Joseph's (Ind.) on 3-8-07 and vs. Northern State on 4-7-07. Selected to the NSIC All-Academic Team for second straight season.

2006: Had an 0-1 record with a 7.11 ERA in seven appearances with two starts in 2006 season.....pitched five innings in start vs. Augustana on 4-5-06, recording seven strikeouts while allowing just one run on three hits....had great strikeout/walk ratio recording 14 strikeouts to just three walks.....also selected to the NSIC All-Academic Team.

2005: Made 14 appearances with one start as a true freshman on the WSC pitching staff. . . Was 0-0 with a 7.79 ERA. . . Worked 17.1 innings and allowed 23 hits with 16 strikeouts and 12 walks. . . Made start vs. Augustana on 4-20-05, worked two innings, allowing one run on one hit with two strikeouts in 2-1 win.

High School: Lettered in baseball three years. . . All-Conference and All-City three years. . . All-District for two years.

Former WSC pitcher Nick Schumacher was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 28th round Friday afternoon in the 2008 MLB First-Year Player Draft. The Nebraska City native was the 855th overall pick and it marks the second straight year a WSC pitcher was taken in the MLB Draft.


The WSC baseball team was ranked 24th in the final NCAA Division II Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Top 30 Coaches Poll released on June 2. The 40-13 Wildcats won the NSIC regular season title for a fifth straight season and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth consecutive year and sixth time in the last eight years.


Wayne State's Nick Schumacher was selected to a pair of All-American Teams Tuesday afternoon, earning First Team honors from Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association and Third Team All-American honors from Daktronics and voted on by sports information directors across the country. Schumacher posted a 13-2 record this season with a 2.36 ERA to earn 2008 NSIC Pitcher of the Year honors.
