Helped his team appear in the state tournament with two semi-final apperances. . . Helped his team win the conference championship his senior season. . . Hit .406 as a senior with 14 doubles, four home runs and a .693 on base percentage. . . Also a standout football player, helping his team to a 10-2 record and earning Second Team All-Conference honors as an outside linebacker.

Former WSC pitcher Nick Schumacher was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 28th round Friday afternoon in the 2008 MLB First-Year Player Draft. The Nebraska City native was the 855th overall pick and it marks the second straight year a WSC pitcher was taken in the MLB Draft.


The WSC baseball team was ranked 24th in the final NCAA Division II Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Top 30 Coaches Poll released on June 2. The 40-13 Wildcats won the NSIC regular season title for a fifth straight season and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth consecutive year and sixth time in the last eight years.


Wayne State's Nick Schumacher was selected to a pair of All-American Teams Tuesday afternoon, earning First Team honors from Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association and Third Team All-American honors from Daktronics and voted on by sports information directors across the country. Schumacher posted a 13-2 record this season with a 2.36 ERA to earn 2008 NSIC Pitcher of the Year honors.
