Athletic infielder with good hands that is expected to play shortstop for the 'Cats this spring.

2007: Hit .295 in first season with WIldcats with three home runs and 33 RBI...one of only four players to appear in all 53 games...had 10 doubles and 43 runs scored...had eight-game hit streak (3-24-07 to 4-2-07)...went 3 for 4 with a home run, double and four RBIs vs. Upper Iowa on 3-25-07 in 17-7 win to highlight eight-game hit streak...ranked fifth on team in at bats with 149.

Before WSC: Played shortstop for Colby CC where he hit .279. . . helped his team reach the Region VI finals and finished second in the Jayhawk Conference.

High School: Attended Colby HS in Colby, Kansas, where he lettered in baseball, football and basketball. . . voted the "Will to Win" award by his teammates his senior season. . . hit .436 with nine doubles his senior season.

Personal: Son of Wayne and Deanna Sulzman. . . hobbies include hunting and golfing. . . majoring in Mortuary Science.

Former WSC pitcher Nick Schumacher was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 28th round Friday afternoon in the 2008 MLB First-Year Player Draft. The Nebraska City native was the 855th overall pick and it marks the second straight year a WSC pitcher was taken in the MLB Draft.


The WSC baseball team was ranked 24th in the final NCAA Division II Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Top 30 Coaches Poll released on June 2. The 40-13 Wildcats won the NSIC regular season title for a fifth straight season and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth consecutive year and sixth time in the last eight years.


Wayne State's Nick Schumacher was selected to a pair of All-American Teams Tuesday afternoon, earning First Team honors from Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association and Third Team All-American honors from Daktronics and voted on by sports information directors across the country. Schumacher posted a 13-2 record this season with a 2.36 ERA to earn 2008 NSIC Pitcher of the Year honors.
