Scrappy right-hander with a good fastball and nasty slider. . . Expected to appear out of the bullpen this spring for the Wildcats.

2007: Named Second Team All-NSIC as a relief pitcher...tied for team lead with 19 appearances, going 4-2 with three saves and a 2.28 ERA, second-lowest on the Wildcat pitching staff...in lone career start, pitched complete game three-hitter with seven strikeouts in 16-0 win over Minnesota, Crookston on 4-1-07 to earn NSIC Pitcher of the Week honors on 4-3-07...finished WSC career tied for most saves at 10 with Dustin Nilius and tied for second in career appearances with 53...earned saves vs. UNK (3-14-07), Augustana (3-15-07) and Northwest Missouri State (3-27-07).

2006: Team leader in saves with six.....made 17 appearances and finished with 2-2 record and a 4.91 ERA....pitched four innings and allowed just one hit to earn win in wild 18-17, 10 inning win over Augustana on 4-5-06......pitched 18.1 innings, allowing 23 hits with 15 strikeouts and just three walks...pitched in wins over Washburn (2-24-06) and Augustana (4-5-06).

2005: Became effective set-up reliever for Wildcats in '05, appearing in 15 games. . . Was 2-0 with a 5.32 ERA and one save. . . Worked 22.0 innings, allowing 24 hits, 17 runs (13 earned), with 13 strikeouts and six walks. . . Earned wins vs. Augustana (4-20-05) and Southwest Minnesota State (5-13-05).

2004:
Appeared in two games, throwing two innings of relief.

2003: Redshirted

High School: Was the top starter for the Wayne American Legion baseball team for the past two years, posting a 14-1 record during his final season.

Personal: Son of Jim McGuire and Betty McGuire. . . Hobbies include bowling, swimming and darts. . . Majoring in Business Management.

Former WSC pitcher Nick Schumacher was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 28th round Friday afternoon in the 2008 MLB First-Year Player Draft. The Nebraska City native was the 855th overall pick and it marks the second straight year a WSC pitcher was taken in the MLB Draft.


The WSC baseball team was ranked 24th in the final NCAA Division II Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Top 30 Coaches Poll released on June 2. The 40-13 Wildcats won the NSIC regular season title for a fifth straight season and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth consecutive year and sixth time in the last eight years.


Wayne State's Nick Schumacher was selected to a pair of All-American Teams Tuesday afternoon, earning First Team honors from Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association and Third Team All-American honors from Daktronics and voted on by sports information directors across the country. Schumacher posted a 13-2 record this season with a 2.36 ERA to earn 2008 NSIC Pitcher of the Year honors.
