"Met My Mate at WSC" Directory
Robert R. '47 and Connie '48 (Johnson) Hansen, Sioux City,
Iowa:
Bob's version: "After two-plus years attending Wayne
State, I left like many others for war service in 1943. Returning
to Wayne in 1946 I jocularly have mused that as a 'weakened,
shell-shocked war veteran' I was captivated by a charming
Wayne State junior, Constance (Connie) Johnson, who had been
diligently searching the campus for me."
Connie's version: "As president of the Wayne pep organization--then
called the Katz Club--I needed a program and was told that
an excellent vocalist was back in school. I was advised that
he was a blond. So my friend Patty Robinson and I met many
blond males inquiring if they were Bob Hansen! We finally
found him and he agreed to help us with the program."
From Bob again: "So that's how we met and it has worked
out quite well. It wasn't long before we were engaged to be
married. I graduated in 1947 and Connie followed in 1948.
We were married the following year. Not the least of our happiness
of 52 years is that Connie has made me sound good as the longtime
musical accompanist for the man she 'tracked down.'"
