Joseph '81 and Frances (Groth) Painter, Hillsdale, Mich.:
"My husband, Joe, and I did indeed meet at Wayne State,
but we were not both students. He was a student and I was
his teacher. I went to teach chemistry at Wayne State in 1978.
Joe was in one of my first freshman chemistry classes (although
he was a sophomore at the time). After he finished the class,
we started dating and dated for three years while he finished
college. We didn't feel he should take any more classes from
me, which made it difficult in a small department, since he
was a chemistry major, but we managed. After graduation Joe
went to medical school in Omaha, and I got to a teaching job
at Brownell-Talbot school there. We were married after his
first semester in medical school, December 27, 1981. We have
three wonderful children, Dan 17, and twins, Laura and Charlotte,
14. Joe is now a radiologist here in Michigan, and I'm a full-time
mother/homemaker."
