"Met My Mate at WSC" Directory
Bruce '73 and Bonnie '73 (Doten) Linafelter, Cincinnati,
Ohio:
"It was the fall of 1969 and the first day of band rehearsal
when I met my mate. I met my mate Bonnie while we were waiting
in line outside Dr. Kelton's office to audition for part assignments
for marching band. I played trombone and Bonnie was a trumpeter.
We started dating several months later and were married in
1971, half way through our college days. After we were married,
we worked for Jim Bales in the cafeteria and at many other
jobs around campus. We would cause problems with housing when
the band would go on tour and hosts would put us in different
homes thinking we were brother and sister rather than husband
and wife. We have great memories of dating at WSC. Bonnie
lived in Berry Hall and Mrs. Beckner did not allow couples
to sit on the couches in what (we called) the passion pit
and touch in any way. If you were caught with your arm around
your girlfriend, you were asked to leave! There were always
many stolen kisses when she looked the other way. We will
celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary this year and still
talk about how much fun it was falling in love on the campus
at Wayne State College."
