Governor Dave Heineman proclaimed the month of October as Nebraska State College System (NSCS) Month and encouraged students and their parents to visit Chadron State, Peru State or Wayne State College.
"It is important for high school graduates to continue their education and one of the first steps in pursuing an education is to schedule a college visit," Heineman said during presentation of the proclamation. "Today, students need more than a high school diploma and the State Colleges at Chadron, Peru and Wayne provide a wide-range of degree options."
"Chadron, Peru and Wayne State are colleges of opportunity and provide students a high quality and affordable educational experience," said NSCS Chancellor Stan Carpenter. "Faculty and staff are committed to engaging students in a personal college experience that helps them achieve their goals and aspirations."
NSCS Board of Trustees Chair Carter "Cap" Peterson said he understands how important it is for students to find a college that is right for them.
"This is an important time of year for high school seniors as they consider their options following graduation," Peterson continued. "Now is when they need to visit colleges, take campus tours and submit applications. The Nebraska State Colleges provide state of the art facilities, quality faculty, and an outstanding education for their students, all at an incredible value."
During the month of October, NSCS Admissions staff visited Nebraska high schools to assist students with the application process for the Nebraska State College System. Students and parents were encouraged to check with their school counselors to ensure they could take advantage of the scheduled visits.
The Nebraska State College System serves nearly 9,000 students through three geographically diverse institutions. Combined, the three Colleges offer more than 200 degree, certificate and pre-professional programs that are accessible on the campuses, via the Internet and in several locations throughout the state. With more than 250 credentialed faculty members and 50,000 successful graduates, the Nebraska State College System provides significant human and intellectual capital that contributes to the current and future strength of the State of Nebraska.
