Lois Brunnert, a 2009 graduate of Wayne State and longtime employee of the College Relations office, won first place in the videos for Web site/not-for-profit and audiovisuals/video productions categories; second place in photographer-writer; and honorable mention in photography-publication other than newspaper/feature, at the 2010 Nebraska Press Women (NPW) Communications contest. Awards were presented April 30 during NPW's spring convention at the 4-H camp in Halsey.
Brunnert's award-winning videos were produced for the Wayne State Foundation and helped promote the college's centennial celebration and generate excitement for the annual phonathon.
"Lois was a tremendous asset for our office," said Jay Collier, director of College Relations. "During the many years she worked for us she engaged in a broad range of duties including writing, photography, video production and radio production. We all applaud her successes here and in the future."
Keith County News reporter Mary Pierce of Ogallala won first place in the Marianne Beel Sweepstakes Awards. Second place went to Barb Micek of the Nance County Journal in Fullerton. Lori Potter of the Kearney Hub placed third.
A total of 66 first-place entries in the state competition have advanced to the National Federation of Press Women Contest, with those awards to be presented in September in Council Bluffs.
