Summer Advising & Registration
After
students are accepted at WSC, they will receive an invitation
to attend a summer Registration Day. Students select an
appropriate day to come to campus to plan their classes
for fall. While on campus for the Summer Registration Day,
faculty and professional advisors will assist students to
select their first semester's classes. The Registration
Day program also provides information about financial aid,
fee payment, health services and the residence halls.
Selection
of the first semester's classes is an improtant process.
Advisors assist students to become acquainted with the
general requirements as well as classes for majors and
teaching programs. Students should consider a mix of
general requirements and classes in the majors. Advisors
review the following kinds of information when assisting
students to select classes for their first semester
in college:
Program
of study requirements
ACT,
SAT or other ability test results
High
school grades
Participation
in campus activities (e.g. sports, fine arts, etc.)
Number
of hours employed
Family
responsibilities
Individual
circumstances
The
student's first semester class schedule should be a
balance of interest area classes to challenge the student
and help them connect to their program of study. The
classes should be matched to the student's ability level
while taking into account the adjustment to college
that occurs during the first semester. Undecided students
are given an opportunity to explore the many options
the college offers to incoming students.
