Career
Planning: Personality
and Careers
There
are a variety of methods one can use to determine which
major/career to pursue in college. This page utilizes information
based on your personality type to offer a method for clarifying
your decision on a major that will lead to a satisfying
career. If you were in GST 110 Succeeding in College, you
probably took the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®
(MBTI) and learned about your personality. If you
remember your personality type from this test, you can begin
your career exploration by choosing your type from below.
If you have not done the MBTI before, visit this link to
learn about personality
types and to make a self-assessment of your type. It
would be appropriate to make an appointment with your Academic
Advisor to process what you have learned.
After
you have learned about your personality type, return here
to research career options associated with your code. In
the table below are codes for the sixteen possible combinations
of personality types. All types can be found in most occupations
listed in the following material and this is not meant to
tell you what you should be doing. The information contained
here represents the most common occupations and the personality
types in those fields; it is only one piece of information
to use in your decision-making process. Keep in mind that
your personality type does not place you into a "mold"
and these are only suggestions for you to consider. Click
on your code to explore your type.
